MemberSince about 1 hour ago I’m unable to connect to Live Messenger and when I try to sign in I get error code 81000314. The funny thing is it was working fine just an hour ago and it suddenly got disconnected and now I’m unable to sign in.

ModeratorI haven’t been able to sign in to WLM for the past 10 hours or so, ending up with an error code of 80070057. Hopefully all will be well tomorrow.

ParticipantWhile I’ve not had any trouble signing in….I’ve had frequent disconnects for the last 48 hours. I think you’re right that it’s server issues on the WLM end. Sadly, that’s a wait it out problem no amount of trying to fix it will make any difference.

ModeratorDoris, I still can’t sign in into WLM. But Web Messenger’s fine.

ParticipantOn the Microsoft WLM Newsgroup the threads are filled with people who can’t get on just now. Jonathan Kay (Microsoft MVP) has posted in most of those threads that there is a service problem, they are working on it, and to keep trying back. It’s affecting a large number of users just now.
There are 3 common error codes. The are referenced in this link.
Just be patient. From the number of times he answered posts (which is uncommon in and of itself) it’s obviously a big deal to them. I’m sure they’ll have it up and working as soon as they can.

A pop up installation was being made when I first started messenger, though.October 21, 2008 at 11:09 am #171578Philip

What annoys me is that there hasn’t been much mention of this on the Internet (?) but according to Doris it is affecting quite a number of people.

ParticipantWell, I’m not seeing loads of people anymore with the problems, nor am I seeing loads of people posting in the Microsoft forum that it’s all fixed either. For several days the problem has been rampant.
From an account I read about some options for groups that were no longer greyed out (although not yet fully functional either), it would appear perhaps some kind of update was pushed out this weekend. Perhaps something didn’t go quite right with that.
It might be worth trying repair. If that doesn’t work, I guess looking at the specific error code and possibly doing Tools/Options/Connections and running the troubleshooter couldn’t hurt.
My guess is there are still some accounts having trouble – tho I can’t say for sure. And yes, the lack of information on this one is most frustrating.

ModeratorDoris, after 4 days of not being able to sign in to WLM9, I was getting pretty sick of this crap. I ran a repair (no luck) and the troubleshooter said everything was fine  So out of desperation more than anything else, I uninstalled WLM9 and reverted back to 8.5 – voila! I could sign in immediately.
Dunno what was wrong with 9.0, but I’ll run some spyware and virus scans, just to be sure.
