ParticipantI’ve recently put up one of my former bands albums for download in MP3 format on my site and thought it would be cool to see what you guys thought about it. Keep in mind we recorded this on a very small budget and we were all about 17-18 yrs old at the time. I play guitar on these songs, but there is one song I supply “vocals” to, I wouldn’t call it singing though (See if you can guess which one it is). These are all original songs co-written by myself and 2 others. The band has long departed our seperate ways, but I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the album, and which songs “stand out” as good in your opinion.
Although originally named “Hey Baby”, we later changed our name to “Apida Dafu”, a take on Mr. T’s catchphrase. Yes, we thought it was cool at the time.
Download em here
For those on high-speed, get the whole album here (22 MB).Apida Dafu:
01 – Down With Me – The first song on the album, and a pretty decent one. I wrote the music-end of this song, and I play the main rhythm guitar part.
02 – Hit Em In The Head – Kind of a weird song, not sure what the lyrics are all about but it was fun to play. I play the rhythm guitar on this one as well. This one was a pretty much written as a group.
03 – Highway East – This one has a very cool drum pattern. I played the main rhythm part on this one as well, and it was a pain in the ass on the double-time chorus.
04 – Jon Walkin Cool – A bluesy-jazz type song and my personal favourite musically on the album. I play the lead guitar part on this one (the wah-wah) and it was completely improv in the studio.
05 – Funk In D Major – A funky song with pretty much no lyrics. This song was a blast to play. My part is the 2nd Rhythm Guitar (with the slight wah) and I contributed to the “huh”.
06 – Bastard Moon – We unleash a new vocalist on you here. A very deep and heavy song that starts out very mellow. I play lead guitar on this one, and I always felt like a rockstar playing that solo lick when the song starts getting heavy.
07 – Hombre’s Bar – Though not a very serious song, it is a true story. This is my amazing lyric writing skills at work here. Its about my buddy who had a run-in with an Oil Rigger at a local bar named Hombres. It was sang purposefully in that weird rough voice.
08 – Dark Red & Beautiful – Another one of my favourites, with our “alternate” vocalist. I wrote the melody on this one and play the main Rhythm Guitar part as well.
09 – Hidden Track – Our other guitar player going to town with his effects pedal. Yes there is only one guitar playing, and there are no overdubs. Sounds cool, though completely meaningless.
