This past weekend, Apple updated the software for the iPhone. Version 2.2 provides some nice additions and numerous bug fixes.
Here’s a quick rundown of what’s new
The 2.2 update also includes a number of bug fixes and other user interface enhancements designed to make the experience even better.
The funny thing about this update — I found out about it in an email from Google (who was promoting their new map features) before I even got the notice from Apple or AT&T. Way to scoop’em, Google!
Who gives a crap about those new features (they’re great), it’s fast like 1.0 again! 2.2 is what should have shipped with the iPhone 3G.

Totally agree, David. Anyone who never experienced 1.0 might not appreciate the speed. The 3G was sluggish at first, but now it’s snappy once again! Happy days!
