I wasn’t sure where to put this post as it amounts to an Arcade query, so I’ve placed it under “fun & games” as the Arcade is fun and has games on it…:crying:
I was wondering if anybody else remembers an old arcade game from the 80’s that involved painting around the four sides of a square before the aliens chasing you around [very like Pacman, that part of it] could touch any part of the square or you.
I seem to remember that you actually utilised a paintbrush on the screen [ie the brush was your instrument] and you had to fill in every square in order to complete a level, but my memory may not be totally reliable here as I have known it to play tricks on me before.
I just wondered if anybody else remembered it, or could put a name to it coz I used to love that game, although I only ever played it in arcades and it was hardly the most popular game in there [as the battle between myself and some other guy who was very good at it being almost the only action on the daily score board clearly indicated].
I’ve not heard of the game since, let alone encountered it, but I thought it may be worth posting a query given the success of the arcade section of the site.
Here’s hoping…
😎
October 21, 2006 at 5:13 am #153556AwesomeSauceParticipantQix is what you want, my friend. Then again, I could be totally wrong… either your memory is as bad as you say it is, or want something else, because there isn’t much of an actual “paint brush” involved.
Here is a link to a flash version which imitates all of the sights and sounds of the original. I’ll agree, it is particularly fun to play, and I’ve always been fond of the cool humming noise that goes on during gameplay.
Anyway, have fun. =)

October 21, 2006 at 11:48 pm #153559Leapy LeoMemberThat was an awesome reply Mr Sauce!
I really didn’t expect anybody else to remember it, let alone you and Mr Soccer [who is a formidable player of Arcade games himself!]…
The only trouble was I couldn’t get to play on the link so it was hard to tell whether it’s the same version I used to play or not, but at least I have a name to look out for now. Also, , I’m sure it was a roller, as in emulsioning roller, that was used in the version I used to play.
A huge thankyou for that.
😎

October 22, 2006 at 7:27 pm #153560Leapy LeoMemberI just addressed the nickname issue on another thread without realising that I had coined it! Oh well…
Here’s to you
Mr Soccer

November 6, 2006 at 10:55 pm #153566Soccer4dummysMember*apologizes for double posting* (I know thats a pet peeve of some people)
o no Leo! looks like you have another opponent for the golden cup on pac-man!
(Since this topic has to do with the thread… I figured it was the best place to do it)November 7, 2006 at 12:28 am #153555OreoMemberI think I know the game you were talking about (if it is not this one)…but it did not look like that and it was a bit newer than 1981. The one I remember actually showed the paint brushes and you had to paint lines along the perimter of a square and not hit the other one…come to think of it…it was probably a different game:D But that was a fun game too. We had it with our Commodor 128…that was the PC we got after our Radio Shack one. 😀
December 22, 2006 at 10:32 am #153561Leapy LeoMemberOreo, I’m sorry I missed this when it was initially posted because the game you are describing sounds about right.
I was playing it in 85 [when arcades were still reasonably popular in the UK] and you could see the squares that had to be painted round.
My original post where I describe the aliens as being unable to touch the square as you are painting it is mistaken, thinking on I seem to remember that as long as you finished getting round the square without the Pacmen types hunting you down then that was fine.
But then it is more than two decades since I played it!
I just remember that I was pretty good at it; I could do with a game I am good at being introduced to this arcade!
😡

That’s a great game, thanks!
January 4, 2007 at 11:41 pm #153567Soccer4dummysMemberok, I didn’t really know where to post this, but o well…
I was just wondering… why are there categories for the games at the top of the arcade list, but all of our games are in the “other” category? not really on the top of the priority list… but…
January 5, 2007 at 1:00 am #153562Leapy LeoMemberI can’t answer that Mr Soccer but today I inadvertently clicked on something that made little squares with red crosses appear next to every game and the word either “favourites” or “Add to favourites” came up next to this.
I had already noticed that when I click on “favourites” on the arcade nothing comes up so maybe this was my chance to make my own selection of preferred games rather than trawling through the 2 pages when I select “all” or maybe not finding the game I’m looking for when I select “random”.
It’s a great idea but the trouble is that I can’t remember what I clicked on because it happened accidentally.
Does anybody know how the “favourites” works?
April 14, 2007 at 3:37 pm #153568Soccer4dummysMemberhey… we have the same number of posts 😀 (or did b4 I posted this one :D) anyways… did u figure out the favs thing?
April 15, 2007 at 5:27 am #153558PhilipModeratorHey Leapy:
I used to play Qix during my younger (sniff) days. It was one of those really addictive games then. Now I play Cosmic Bugs, which is quite a good clone of it.
