I have a suggestion about the Arcade – First I want to say that I would not make this suggestion if I didnt have a high score myself. But I think it would be a good thing to delete all scores from all the games maybe once a month. Not just the high scores but all scores.
If they are like most games after being played for so long they tend to get tight which makes them harder than normal to win. and even if they are not like this, I think it would give some others a chance.
I can understand how some could not want to go along with this as they have been a champ for a long time and I think maybe a page or a place where all time high scores are posted and the name can stand until someone has topped their all time high score.

The discussion began about something else and ended up being about re-setting the arcade. It’s a very good suggestion and if you read the thread, you can see that i agree with you on that. Thanks for bringing it up. 😛
Oh and yes this comes from someone with a high score trophy.
May 2, 2006 at 5:52 pm #143613williamleeMemberOk I admit this suggestion was orginally Vanessa’s. :p
But you can’t blame me for wanting to stand on the shoulders of greatness to reach the ultimate star.
May 2, 2006 at 5:54 pm #143609NessaParticipant*tumbles a bit* Hey! I’m not that strong!
But actually if you really want to be fair it was first suggested by Graham (detn8r). 😛
May 2, 2006 at 6:36 pm #143601Jeff HesterKeymasterGood suggestion, but one question…
Is a monthly reset frequent enough? 🙂
May 2, 2006 at 6:43 pm #143614williamleeMemberI believe so, that gives others a fighting chance for the high score and also maintain it, or regain it whichever it comes to.

I know it took me about a month to get mine, so it’s only right to sport the trophy for at least a month. During that month other people will of course be trying to beat it (and might succeed) and then when it’s high enough, the month is over and back to 0 so it can start all over again.
May 2, 2006 at 9:24 pm #143606SpikeMemberYeah, but then again, if someone wins a trophy and its the end of the month, their hard work was for next to nothing.
I’d say, just to be on the safe side, 2 months, or even quarterly.
May 2, 2006 at 10:06 pm #143615williamleeMemberTrue enough, it is nice to have this trophy to sport around a bit. Sort of like tooting your own horn. My main thought is more focused on the competition part of playing. If my score is so high it can’t be touched and it remains like this then I have to compete against myself which is no fun and if someone works hard and almost beats me each time no fun for them either. Nothing pumps you up faster coming on and finding someone took your prize but now you need to get it back.
I see your point spike and I agree that is a set back but the same could also be said after 2 or even 3 months. dont you think.
May 2, 2006 at 10:20 pm #143604DavidParticipantIsn’t the idea of a high score to be something that is -really- hard to get? Has nobody ever played an arcade game before? Resetting the scores is not only stupid but also unfair to those that worked hard to get their scores.
May 2, 2006 at 10:55 pm #143602Jeff HesterKeymasterYeah, but it gets old if the scores get so high that they’re virtually unbeatable. I’m cool with resetting them occasionally.
Think of it as a new season of [insert name of your favorite sport here].
If you’re concerned about losing that hard-earned trophy, maybe we could also create a “hall of fame” that records the high scores on a monthly basis, hmmmm?
May 2, 2006 at 11:40 pm #143603detn8rParticipantI believe that this is what was suggested, no? Either way, if the majority of the game users want this, I don’t see why arguing it, no? Perhaps even a mention in the podcast ;o

That’d be cool. I just don’t see a point to erasing all the scores just because they are higher than what anyone else can get..because thats the point of “high scores.”
May 3, 2006 at 10:56 pm #143612Eagle_KiwiMemberI’m passionate about “High Score” lists!
Though I haven’t yet got around to seriously getting myself ON one of those, my feeling would be that every SIX months should be the most frequent for refreshes (and I’d really prefer just annually).Of course it’s a balance, but a delicate one in my view. I’d feel if I’m going to lose the credit after just a month or two then why bother trying much.
And further, I’m not averse to battling away, on and off, for 6 months or more just trying to make the top echelon – that’s what’s FUN about such games.
… to ME.Actually I do love the way some Yahoo Games (e.g. Pyramids) keep the High Scores of “Friends”.
It includes only scores made within the last 31(?) days – so if one gets to the top one still needs to repeat that again the following month, so it’s always fairly fluid.I wonder WHY many users DON’T use the arcade much ?
Perhaps they just don’t realise it’s there – maybe they just don’t like arcade games – OR are a lot of people REALLY put off by finding the current high scores seem out of reach to them ?May 3, 2006 at 11:00 pm #143611NessaParticipantEagle_Kiwi wrote:…I wonder WHY many users DON’T use the arcade much ?
Perhaps they just don’t realise it’s there – maybe they just don’t like arcade games – OR are a lot of people REALLY put off by finding the current high scores seem out of reach to them ?Well i know from personal opinion, i hardly play anymore because the scores are high enough that it’s extremely hard to even try winning so i give up. I do know MiamiGuy feels this way too because he told me so once in the forum chat. 😛 So it does discourage some people from playing, and heck i can’t even beat my high score in snake (so i don’t play snake anymore), it’s not as fun knowing how high of an almost impossible score you must get up to. 🙁
