I’ll be going to Springfield, IL (3hr drive) for a SkillsUSA State Competition. I’ll be competing against other kids my age for a chance to go to Nationals (great, GREAT job opportunities). I’m going to be competing in Networking, so wish me luck! I’ll be back on Saturday afternoon, at which time I’ll have to write a 10 page report due Monday. *sigh* *pulls hair out* It’ll all get way easier after May 1st, that’s for sure.
See you Monday! =)

I’m glad it aint only ME that’s been thinking this ol’ Staff Room seems to have really gone AWOL these last few days.Maybe May is settling to be a goooood month here ?! 😉
(Good Luck in Springfield 😎 )
April 27, 2006 at 4:45 am #143281Someguy03MemberI searched the website and couldn’t find a page saying what kind of things you would be doing with networking while your there. Be sure to explain it to us when you get back =)
April 29, 2006 at 7:27 pm #143283SpikeMemberWell, it was a great great experience, unfortunately I didn’t win. Oh well, I’m not pissed or anything, it was definately hard. The people who won definately deserved it.
We had to program 2 routers (90min), make 3 Ethernet cables and a patch panel cable (40min) and take 2 tests (60min). It was a long day, and I’m looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow!
April 29, 2006 at 9:52 pm #143282RabidKittenParticipantSkillsUSA can be a very competitve place. I remember my first couple trips down there. Whoo. *wipes her head* Insane. Have you ever been to the leadership conferences? Now -those- are weird.
Actually, my best friend at the time (And number one competition) ended up going to nationals twice in three years for Television Production. I would’ve gotten second but my school was too ghetto to afford digital editing, so we did deck to deck and it really cut the quality. *shrug* I still ended up getting third twice in Extemporaneous Speaking *thumbs up* Even though I had a massively horrid flu both times (What luck eh?)
What was your secondary competition, Jake? Or did you not take one?
April 30, 2006 at 12:00 am #143284SpikeMemberDidn’t take two, sorry. If I had to choose, though, I’d say Web Design or Comp Tech Apps.
Yeah, it was really insane. This guy won first in some obscure category and his parents are up in the blacony of the stadium crying, they had an Ice Cream Social (which, I alternated to having Steak at Anderson’s), and they had a motivational speaker come for us…I mean, yeah, it’s exciting and thrilling, but I’m not the WOOOOOOOO YEAH GO SKILLSUSA type, myself 😉
