MemberHi all, my first time on this site….so be gentle with me!
I am trying to connect to the ‘audio chat’ part of MSN. I can connect with my web cam (Logitech 4000) and the picture work fine. I have done the audio set up and all the tests seem to work….I can hear the test sound, and I can see the mic scroll bar moving when I speak. But I get NO AUDIO CONVERSATION !!!
I have been told that it may be because I have a router (Draytek Vigor2600, ADSL Router) that connects mine and the kids PC to the net independantly. I can’t seem to get any sense from anybody as to how to solve this.
I try to connect to 2 people, 1 in Spain, 1 in the UK(as I am) both can have ‘audio chat’ with other people!!?? Any ideas greatly received.
I’m not brill with all the ‘Gobbledebollocks’ so you may have to talk slowly to me!!!

MemberIf you make any changes in the Windows registry, make sure you write down the value you’re going to change before you do anything else. That way, if it doesn’t help solve your problem, you can change it back.
You could also make a backup copy of your Windows registry before you make the change, but that’s a bit more work and in this case not really necessary.January 15, 2004 at 12:22 pm #52667Tweety
MemberHi all,
I am also having problems lately with the audio part.
I have win xp pro and use MSN 6. the cam works fine (Logitech quickcam pro 4000) but when trying to add audio it trys to connect but after a while fails. even without the cam being in use it happens. but when the other person sent me audio invite it seems to have worked. Now here’s the thing, I know it must be the firewall because when I turned it off I am able to send audio invite and it connects just fine. but not when the firewall is on (I use norton Internet security 2003). I know for audio the ports should be 5004-65535 UDP so I tried to open them in my firewall – not sure if this is how you open ports (please correct me if I am wrong) but in Personal firewall – advance tab – clicked on general rules button and clicked on add —- i chose permit to and from computers, choose UDP from the options and in the ports area I entered the port range 5004-65535.
I tried again to send an audio invite but it didnt make any difference. thing is I am sure its the firewall that causing my problem but I cant just disable it for a long time. there must be another solution or way to fix it. the other person also uses XP and MSN6
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!p/s- Looks like my cam gets disconnected after like 10-15 min. it used to be ok up until now. its just my cam, the cam of my friend stays connected.

MemberI, too, am having trouble trying to use audio in MSN Messenger 6.1 and hope that somebody here might have some suggestions.
My wife is currently at our home in England, while I am at my father’s house in Canada.
She is using our desktop, which has a broadband DSL connection to the internet. The computer is connected directly to the DSL modem. In place of a router/firewall, it has ZoneAlarm Pro installed on it.
While I am here, I am using my Dad’s laptop which also has a broadband DSL connection to the internet. This is a wireless connection to a Microsoft MN-500 wireless base station, which acts as a router/firewall. There is no software firewall on this machine.
We are both using MSN Messenger 6.1 running on Windows XP Professional.
Messenger is working just fine for chatting via text and for viewing each other’s webcam. But, the audio will not work. I believe I have everything configured properly on each computer, but the continued problems seem to indicate otherwise.
This is where it gets interesting. We can both have complete video/audio conversations with my wife’s mother (who lives here in Canada) just fine, but we can’t make the audio work between us.
I’m quite confused by this.
On the computer in England, I’ve made sure that both my mother-in-law’s IP and mine are listed as “Trusted” in ZoneAlarm, and I have essentially turned the firewall off for the “Trusted” zone.
Any ideas?

MemberOkay yeah the problem is with MSN 6.1. I could not get it working, and the best way to start to talk to your friends is to goto “c:program filesmessenger”
there you will find MSN messenger 4.7, sign on 6.1 or remove it, and sign in on 4.7 and start talking
works like a charm.
