I just ran Trillian Pro 1.x to see if it’d notify me of the new version (which it didn’t, by the way) and instead of getting a message from MSN about them making changes and me needing to upgrade to a new version of MSN Messenger, I got a message from YahooMessengerTeam:
Quote:quote:[01:21] YahooMessengerTeam: Yahoo! is upgrading to its newest version of Yahoo! Messenger on September 24, 2003. The upgrade is part of an ongoing process to continually enhance the overall quality of the Yahoo! Messenger service for our millions of users. Please download the latest version at http://messenger.yahoo.comHas anyone else gotten this message?
I’m not worried about it though as I just downloaded Trillian Pro 2 and will probably not get that message again 🙂By the way, I wonder if there will be new incompatibility issues between Trillian and Yahoo! Messenger once they’ve released a new version of YIM…
September 13, 2003 at 6:41 am #55672carbonizeMemberThis is now old news. Basically Yaho are forcing anyone using Yahoo messenger 5 to update by killing the protocol version it uses, YMSG9. Trillian Pro 1 and 0.74 both use YMSG9 but Pro 2 was updated to YMSG11 for the final release.
September 13, 2003 at 11:27 am #55667FrutZleMemberI hadn’t received that messages last time I had Trillian Pro 1.x on (a week or so ago). A search on these forums didn’t turn anything up either, so I figured I might just as well post about it.
September 13, 2003 at 12:21 pm #55671carbonizeMemberYeah you only get the message if you log in using YMSG9. Which is quite funny because as anyone who is familiar with the YMSG will tell you they are all the same apart from the position of the information in the packets.
I wonder if I can log in using the YMSG9 login if I change the start of the packet to YMSG10 instead
September 17, 2003 at 12:39 am #55676Secret Agent WoMemberI’ve been bombarded with messages from both msn and yahoo. Any confirmation that Trillian 2.0 kills these announcements?
September 17, 2003 at 12:51 am #55669ChimmeraMemberI, too, am receiving the Yahoo upgrade message every time I log on! I find it highly irritating and have considered turning off the Yahoo service until after the 24th, when I’m hoping they will stop issuing the message. I haven’t thought about blocking the message manually since I’m usually very quick to close the window anyway.
As for Trillian 2.0 filtering this particular message…it does not. At least not without some sort of setting change. I’m running 2.0 and I still get this message.
I suppose the good news is that I’m only getting this kind of message from Yahoo. Nothing but IMs from people I have on my list on MSN, AIM and ICQ.
September 17, 2003 at 2:16 am #55670carbonizeMemberTrillian Pro 2 final uses YMSG11 so if you are still getting this message you are either not on the final version or for some reason your Yahoo.dll didn’t get updated.
September 18, 2003 at 12:53 am #55675PneumaticMemberHello all.
There is now a patch available for Trillian .74 and 1.0 that will take care of the Yahoo and MSN incompatibility issues. Head on over to the website and pick it up.
Be sure that you get the right patch for your version.
Trillian Basic Patch E is for the free version

I can personally confirm that if you’re running Trillian 2.0, you will not receive messages from either Yahoo or MSN. As Chimera noted, he was having some problems, but this is atypical (maybe didn’t install properly?).

That was actually added JUST before the final version was released (in fact it delayed the release for a few hours).
If you are still getting the Yahoo message, and you are using Trillian 2.0, you need to log into the members area and download the newest version which was released on September 10.
September 18, 2003 at 2:21 am #55668ChimmeraMemberI am fairly certian I’m running the latest release of 2.0 as I grabbed it when I recieved a message that my current version would not work for much longer. This was some time around the beginning of September.
My system is very much in need of an overhaul and I’ll be wiping my HDDs soon and reinstalling everything from scratch. I’ll make sure I have the absolute latest version before I resintall Trillian. It will be one of the first things I do once I get back online.
I know this is not the best way to actually fix a problem but it’s one of the simplest.
Once I have a fresh OS and newly installed Trillian, I’ll see if I still get the message.

Check the Preferences->About screen. If the date isn’t September 10, you aren’t running the most recent version. I can almost guarantee that you are using an older version if you are still getting that Yahoo message.
