I want to leave a program running that will message someone when they first come online.
Can this be done.IF yes how is this possible?
i dont know of a program that will do this, but you could try doormanbot – you send a message to doorman bot with the screenname of your contact and the message you want to send them… when they sign on, doorman bot will deliver your message to them. of course, this doesn’t work if they have their privacy options set to block messages from contacts not on their list, but otherwise it works nicely.
I don’t know too much about programming, but it seems to me that since you can have AIM alert you as to when someone comes online, you should be able to write a program doing what you want. All you would need to do is write a program capable of sending a message through AIM and then either hack AIM so that instead of an alert the program is started, or have a certain native AIM alert sound or notice trigger the program.
Doesn’t GAIM allow this to be done?
