MemberDoes anyone know if Away Control will work with Trillian or do I need to be running it with aim to get it to work. Also does anyone know when MiddleMan Beta 3 will be coming out which will supposedly have this feature built into it.
Thanks

KeymasterAway Control will not work with Trillian. To my knowledge nobody has developed and outside program that changes Trillian. To use that you’ll have to use the original AIM. As for MiddleMan Beta 3’s release date, just keep checking their website for any news and available downloads.

Aim Away
When setting yourself away in AOL instant messenger, a window pops up displaying your current status. Also in this window is a button which allows you to conveniently restore your status. This trick uses system tray alerts and events to imitate this feature and allow you to save a few clicks to restore your status in Trillian rather than use the Set Status menu each time.
First, we need to create an event. Go to the Trillian Preferences via the File menu or sytemtray icon and go to the Advance Preferences/Automation section. Click the Add button select Automation
Use the following settings for this new event:
- Event Type: Program Generated
- Program Generated Event: Events: Away state
- Action Type: Systray Alert
- Text: <b>Your current status is
Globally AwayCLICK HERE TO RETURN
- Type: aim-systray-status
- On Finish: Persistent
- On Click: globallyback (This can be any name you prefer)
Once all the options are filled in, click Add Event at the bottom of the window. This will pop up a second window like the one for this event. The previous event was to display the systray alert whenever you change your status to away. This second event will change your status to back when you click the systray alert.
Use the following options:
- Event Type: Program Generated
- Program Generated Event: User: globallyback (This will be set automatically)
- Action Type: Set Status_
- Away Message: Set Globally Back
Click Set Event for each window, and you’re done!
Personal Away Messages
Often, you might want to leave a specific message for someone. Say you are meeting someone and want to let them know where you will be or what time to meet. The other person is not online, but they may send you a message while you are away to find out when you plan to meet. With personalized away messages, you can leave a message so when that contact sends you a message, it will reply with more information about the meeting.
This trick takes advantage of Trillian’s ContactRenaming feature combined with a creative use of AwayMessages Create your default away message, and check the option to reply with the away message when someone contacts you. In away messages, “%N” can be used to dynamically include the contact’s display name in the away message. This can be changed by renaming the contact on your contact list. So, create an away message such as the following:
Hello, I’m not here right now %N.
Now, say you want to let a contact named “Kudo” know that you are at the library and that you want him to meet you there. Rename “Kudo” on your contact list to the following:
Kudo I’ll be at the library until 6, meet me there!
Now, when Kudo messages you with the away messsage set, he will receive the following message:
Hello, I’m not here right now Kudo. I’ll be at the library until 6, meet me ther!
Only Kudo will receive this message. You can do the same for any other contacts you wish to leave a message. This works well for a temporary message but is not ideal if you want to use permanent messages for certain contacts because generally you would not want these renamed names in your contact list.
