In the UK a paedophile has been sentenced to 18 months in jail and he’s no longer allowed to sign up for internet access or cellular phone usage.
See http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/3402263.stm for the full story.Personally I agree with the statement in that article that says
“The simple truth is there are thousands of internet cafes on the high streets and back streets of every urban area in BritainYou can walk into one of them, give someone a quid in cash and set yourself up an internet account in less than three seconds.
It requires absolutely no proof of you name, address, telephone number or anything, and the same applies with mobile phones – you just pay cash in a shop and walk out with one.”
Though it’s probably not as effective as the judge and police hope it will be, at least they’re doing something more than just a jail sentence to try and keep people like that from becoming a repeat offender in the same way they’ve acted in the past.
What’s your view on this? What do you think is a better way to prevent paedophiles from doing “their thing”?

And then, when we start running out of room (which we already are) we can start upgrading sentences, such as 5 life sentences with no chance of parole, to the death penalty. I mean, what is the point of keeping these people alive?

When the gov’t realizes how big of an impact the internet plays nowadays in crimes that’s a step in the right direction to helping future crimes from happening. I think it will be easier said then done, yes it’d be nice to keep the sicko’s in jail but maybe a minority of the criminals could be rehabilitated back into society depending on the situation. As far as going to the extreme of sentencing everyone to death.. who’s willing to pay.. do you know how much it is for one execution? If you want to go that route why not bring back firing squads, blah blah it’s inhumane but it’ll keep my tax dollars going to better things like school levy’s rather then a child molester.
