MemberI’ve created a BigBlueBall to-do list that all staffers should have access to (using your BigBlueBall.com Google accounts).
Here’s the link: http://sites.google.com/a/bigblueball.com/bigblueball-2008/bigblueball-redesign-to-do-list
I’ve also started a list of “static” pages that need to be transfered to WordPress and updated: http://sites.google.com/a/bigblueball.com/bigblueball-2008/bigblueball-redesign-to-do-list/pages-to-transfer-and-update
I’ve only barely started both of these lists, and welcome anyone to start adding to them.
If there is something that you would like to help out with, feel free to let me know!

MemberAny WordPress users who want to help me brainstorm how best to organize some of the content?
There are two basic kinds of content available in WordPress: posts and pages.
Posts are generally time-sensitive. The stuff that appears on our front page at BBB would fall into this category. Posts also can be categorized, so we can create categories which can be used for navigation. They can also be tagged with keywords, which can also be used (sort of) for navigation.
Pages are primarily for pages that are repeatedly used over time. Some of the content in our IM Centers falls into this category (overviews of the basic IM programs, the Interoperability Matrix, Smiley reference, etc.). Pages cannot be categorized, but they can be nested for breadcrumb navigation.
Why is this confusing? Well, it could get confusing if we have parent pages (i.e. “Instant Messaging”) that match a post category.
Here’s my idea:
Top-level menu (i.e. pages and links):
Instant Messaging | Social Networking | Forums
Categories/Subcategories (posts):
- Instant Messaging
- AIM
- WLM
- Yahoo!
- Skype
- Social Networking
- MySpace
Any advice or suggestions for how to handle this?

MemberIn the absence of opinions, I’ve revised my approach slightly. The categories for posts will be much the same, but I am greatly simplifying and reducing the number of pages. Most of the reference stuff that currently appears as a “page” in BBB will end up as a post.
The pages will be limited to the really static stuff like the privacy policy, about us, contact us, etc.

MemberIf you haven’t checked out the new site for a few days, please do! BigBlueBall
I’ve added several new features over the weekend for you to check out.
You can now login using your Facebook account, and the site displays a thumbnail image of recent visitors. If you used Facebook, it graphics your thumbnail from there, or if you have a Gravatar setup, it uses that.
There is a new section on the sidebar that shows the latest versions of popular IM programs. It includes a link to the “complete” listing (which needs development… and I could REALLY use your comments on).
And I’ve added a polling feature, also on the sidebar. We can create standalone polls or add them to articles, and the sidebar can display a specific poll or rotate between available polls. We had this a long time ago, and it was very popular. This will be even easier for visitors to use since they don’t need to register to vote (although that’s also configurable).
Finally, I’ve added some fresh news articles.
Please poke around and leave some comments. When we launch the new design, the articles you see are what everyone will see on BigBlueBall, and the comments that are created now will be carried over with them. It would be nice if most of the articles had at least one or two comments, so share your opinions! 😉
Oh yeah, the forum redesign is coming along as well. 😉

MemberIf you can, please add some comments to the articles that are already there. When we launch, I don’t want people to get the impression that there isn’t any community behind the site.
Check back daily, as I’ll be adding new articles.
