With the continual flow of P2P networks/clients that keep popping up around the net, what, in everyones opinion, is the best?
Personally, I prefer using different P2P’s for different types of files. SoulSeek is a grand P2P if you are looking for common Metal/EMO and rare music, but rather sparse for searching for movies, text etc.
WinMX is good for finding popular music and the multi-user downloading is a plus. I have heard about DC++ but never got the chance to use it. And then of course there is KazAa, the spyware infested marketing ploy that drew a butt-load of users even with its crappy interface.
But….There is an alternative, KazAaLite, the “illegal” de-infested version of KazAa, its quite a nice P2P, my only complaint is the problem of staying connected and it still has the bland, bright interface. So what’s YOUR opinion?Ruse Of Metacarpi
December 14, 2004 at 11:57 pm #108845colinMemberI use Bittorrent for programs and shows and stuff. For music, I use Limewire. Bittorrent is so cool, I have been hooked ever since I got introduced to it.
December 15, 2004 at 12:20 am #108839MartinBradleyMemberI tried to get BitTorrent because I heard it was great for larger files. Got a broken link when trying to download it though, anyone got an alternative suggestion?
I’m using eMule Plus at the moment, didn’t appear to come bloated with Adware and other foul, unwanted parasites.

The Bittorrent Client I use is actually Bittornado. It is very good, if you can get the “yellow light” off(you will find out if you download it) . once you get the yellow light off, its a good one. You can get it at http://www.bittornado.com
December 15, 2004 at 12:29 am #108840MartinBradleyMemberThanks Colin.
December 15, 2004 at 12:33 am #108847colinMemberAnytime. Is it working for you now? Oh, BTW, I just saw your “Member of the Month” title. Congrats!!! If you need any more help with BT, just ask, I’ve been using it for a ew months
December 15, 2004 at 12:33 am #108851SpikeMemberThere’s a similar topic here. I personally prefer AresLite or Kazaa Lite, Ares becuase they don’t scramble songs, and Kazaa because it has one of the largest communities.
December 15, 2004 at 12:40 am #108841MartinBradleyMemberNo Colin, it’s not working. I get asked to open a .torrent file when running the program. As far as I know, I don’t yet have any such files on my PC, so I click Cancel. Upon doing so, it brings up a window entitled, “BITTORRENT USAGE”. In the window is a series of what it calls, “Arguments”.
Oh, and thanks for the MOTM comment :D!
December 15, 2004 at 1:52 am #108855RuseOfMetacarpiMember*vehemently scribbling notes* So Bittorrent is good eh? but there seems to be a problem with the program. *shrugs* Maybe you can find .zip’s or .exe’s of bittorrent on your current P2P network, like in the program section of KazAa Lite.

December 15, 2004 at 1:55 am #108853kron_19792000MemberI have used bittorrent for a month or so it is pretty good. But I still like Ares the best for the variety
EDIT: Congratulations on your MOTM Martin I just noticed it after colin mentioned it 🙂 You can get torrents from different web site a torrent is the blue print(atleast that is how I understand it) of the file that you want. Just google it martin
EDIT: Colin, how do you resume downloads. As long as I download it at one go I do not have any problems, but how do I resume a download, I can only find a cancel button
December 15, 2004 at 3:02 am #108842DaJMan1800MemberI use Limewire, mostly because there’s more users than WinMX, the program I used to use. The problem I have with most P2P programs is that all the good ones carry spyware/adware/viruses. WinMX seemed not to carry any, but there aren’t very many users there. For this purpose, I switched to Limewire. It works great, expect a tiny bit of adware comes bundled.
December 15, 2004 at 11:41 pm #108848colinMember@ Marin:
You have to download torrent files before you run the program. A good place is http://www.suprnova.org (Mods if this link is not allowed, please remove it, thanks:D) Anyways, once you download the torrent file of the song/program/movie/etc. that you want, you run bittornado, and select the torrent file that you downloaded. If you have any more questions, please AIM me at SavedB4Death715 or email me at [email protected] . Hope that helps!
@Kron
I dont know about the offical client(bittorrent), but with bittornado, when you run the program, you get a pop-up where you choose the file you want to download. Well, If you want to resume a file that you paused, then you just click the file, and it should resume
@Ruse
go to http://www.suprnova.org to download torrent files, then use bittornado to get the .exe or w/e from the torrent.December 15, 2004 at 11:48 pm #108843TigerbladeParticipanti’d suggest staying away from blubster, it used to be really good as long as you were really good at closing popups. the newest version is infested with spyware/adware, and even the older version gave me a headache removing all the stuff it chose to install
personally I prefer Ares, it seems to be pretty stable, no adware/spyware, and simple enough to use… depends on your connection for how fast files download, but if you have a decent connection you should have no problems. (i wish my school would uncap us… but they wont)
not that I download anything illegally though…. no, not at all…. not me…. I dont have any music… or movies… nope. 😉

The main problem with Ares is that it simultaneously downloads and uploads so for a person like me on dial up it gets to be irritating. I have been trying Imesh for a week or so now and I like it. But it does have a few pop ups but I am not got any spyware/adware yet, I am begining to like it a lot. Although Ares still has virtually any thing you want. I use Ares for rare downloads and Imesh for every thing elseDecember 16, 2004 at 1:08 am #108850W311Memberapparentyl torrent has made a lot of enemies
Check the link below(i hope I can paste links) …not a good news though 🙁http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,12589,1374232,00.html
