MemberI was wondering if someone knew what the best chat program for webcamming is. I like using chat rooms and talking to my gf on the cam when she is away, but Yahoo messenger and MSN don’t seem the best quality. Anyone know of ne good ones I may be missing? I’ve tried AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Trillian and Eyeball chat.

MemberMSN doesn’t have a good chat room function. Yahoo is too slow… I am actually surprised… the Supercam thing is good but it appears as not everyone has that.

MemberHi Bwangster,
I’ve never met anyone who had been able to USE the YM “super” webcam, though I did hear it’s only marginally better than the normal one anyway.I’d suggest IVisit – which I tried recently simply to talk (and cam) with someone on a Mac, as the Mac version of YM doesn’t include any voice function.
The sound was ok, but the speed of the video blew my socks off! I’m only on dialup speed, yet for the first time on any IM program I actually saw my friend’s lips move in unison with what I was hearing!
Though the picture size is quite small – the program was very easy to sign up to and install – might be worth your trying ? 🙂You could also try http://www.paltalk.com which is a good chat/voice/cam program, but the free version has a lot of ads, AND restrictions on cam viewing.

KeymasterI’ve been able to use Yahoo! Supercam, and the only big difference is a faster frame rate. Personally, the best video quality I’ve gotten is using MSN Messenger.
The thing to keep in mind is that all of these programs will be constrained by a number of factors beyond their control, including the capabilities of your webcam, the performance of your computer, the speed of your Internet connection, other activities you have running (downloads, email, etc.) and network conjestion. Add it all up and there are LOTS of things that can degrade video performance.

Yes the window is small but oh well, the speed is amazing, lately im on dial up too as I’m waiting for my dsl to get activated, and I’m really impressed by the performance of this. And very simple to use as well.
