MemberBuddy4u.com seems to be a good one, I don’t know if its the best one… but its worth giving it a try and see what you think.

Memberhere’s what you can do… make a webpage with simple html code, nothing flashy, and either set up the server on your computer or upload it to some other server… THAT’s the best way to go… that way you can customize it as far as you want.

MemberHey, there’s an idea I never thought of. I know that subprofile uses MASSIVE amounts of popup ads, so if anyone goes to sign your guestbooks or leave a note in your profile, they will get swamped. I hate it when people have links in their profiles that flood my computer with popup junk. Thanks for the idea.

Sweet idea. 🙂
I bet it wouldn’t be too hard to make a VB AIM Profile WebServer, I’ll look into it.. 🙂

Memberif you are trying to make a site you can find out exactly who views your profile like you want. It’s called perl scripting and its not that difficult it would basically consist of you adding a little extra in the link so that you could get screen names… you could also log a lot more than that if you wanted too… on my site http://www.pittsucks.com i have it log a lot more than that since i go to penn state our hostnames include our access id’s which you can look up for a REAL name and address… if you visit my site and go to penn state i have it update itself into an access database with SQL… this sounds like a lot of work but you could get a script with the logging really easy I use AXS Logging… type it into google you should find it as for the SQL its not a difficult language and if your getting into the computer field you should look it up anyways here is a sample log of mine, but, I am removing their real name and address for privacy’s sake

MemberAs far as making a VB server, there would be no point. All you would need is a regular webserver. Xitami, which you can get at http://www.download.com for free works really well. As for logging people who view your profile, its quite simple using PHP or PERL. PHP is easily downloaded and installed from http://www.php.net and will even configure Xitami’s settings automatically. What you would then do is paste a link in your profile to the php page on your computer. However, if you don’t have a static IP, you would have to update the IP address of the link in your profile each time you log on or come up with some other clever way of automating this. The link would look something like
Code:When other users view this profile, the %n will be replaced by their screen name, which you can later write to a text file on your PC via PHP or deal with any way you see fit. Since AIM still fails to properly encode spaces in URL’s, which would result if someone had their screen name formated with spaces, it would cause most server’s to not return the page. However, Xitami again does a good job by allowing unencoded spaces of requested pages. At this point, you can basically log anything you want with PHP, such as IP, browser, OS, time, date, etc. Good luck.

I’ve messed around with this a bit tonight, and I have a working VB HTTP server. It’s not really that it’s a VB Webserver, it’ll just host a few HTML pages. I can add support for guest books, logging, etc. When you turn it on, it will contact showmyip.com and update your profile as well. I’m open for suggestions.

MemberSounds like a good deal for people with little scripting knowledge or for people who don’t need complete control. Automatically updating the profile link would be a nice touch. Sounds like a good project. One thing I would consider is supporting unencoded URLs which would allow for spacing in screen names.

i like that idea. anyone know how to make a counter like Subprofiles.com ones?
February 12, 2004 at 5:36 am #84763Sathallrin
MemberA simple PHP counter to count the number of hits to the page, you would do something like this:
Code:Then just create a blank file called counter.dat and open it with a text editor and put a 0 in it (or wherever you want the counter to start at) and then just upload it to your webserver, and chmod it to be world writable (chmod 755 would probably work best).
