There’s yet another Internet Explorer security hole that been discovered, and some crafty hacker has exploited it with a program designed to hijack your AIM account.
Beware of links you receive from anyone, even a friend. Once the program has hijacked the AIM account, it auto-sends IMs to everyone on the victim’s buddy list. In other words, that link you got from your friend, might not have really been sent by them. Just IM them and double-check.
Of course, always be wary of clicking links from strangers.
There is also another link that is being spammed in chats. It says that it links to a page that gives you a program that allows you to steal any aim password password instantly. When you go to the link it takes you to the download and you get the program. Once you run it, about 10 minutes later your aim goes wack and starts flashing initials where the stock bar is. Then your computer begins slowly deleting its harddrive. Once you shut it down it stops the hardrive deleten but every time you reboot and load aim you automatically get sent to a private chat room named “john” or something similar to that. Everyone i know who was infected has reformatted their hard drive because they couldnt stop the program.
There was also a site, realphx.com, that had hired a programmer to make an advertising campaign for the site, which btw sells an anti adware program.
What the site did when you visited it was use the exploit, which uses the html applications and the tags together in a fashion to trick the page into letting the application download without actually asking permissions, and then after it had the malicious program running it would make, dl, or somehow put a small program in your c: directory and add it to the registry so it was run everytime the computer was.
This little program would make ads popup, replace your profile with a link to the site, reset your homepage to the site, and possibly more, but all this time creating such havok also selling a program to get rid of it all for only $8.75 I think.:mad:
Needless to say the site has since put disclaimers and appologies on their site, since it propogated quite fast through the internet via profiles and maybe other forms of linking. 😉
