MemberOkay, everyone out there: 😉 we all know the next ‘big thing’ being touted about in the ‘Wondeful World of Internet Land’ is VoIP – or as we tend to call it Internet Telephony …
So with the burgeoning plethora of confusing systems beginning to ‘slosh around the net’ does anyone have an opinion on whether there is there a case for B.B.B. to move into this field …. 🙂
At the moment the only genuine FREE reasonably straight forward user friendly system I have used to date is:

All constructive comments welcome .. [cause ah 😮 is new here] … I know it is NOT an IM application …:p

ParticipantNo, it’s not mainly for chatting. I see some connections such as communicating via talk, but this site is mostly for chat through text. Maybe though since they have a webcam section. Maybe just another forum for Audio Aid or something, for all communication devices.

KeymasterI’m all for it. We’ve had a lot of discussion about Skype since it’s original beta release in 2003, and I recently made the switch to VoIP at home.
The sound quality is awesome, and the price cannot be beat. As long as you have a reliable broadband connection, I can’t see any reason not to switch to VoIP.
It is a bit of a tangent from instant messaging, but on the other hand, there is some overlap. Skype has instant messaging capabilities built-in, so you can send text messages to your contacts. And of course, most of the big instant messengers are offering some form of voice chat as well, so the boundaries are blurring.
You’ve got my thumbs up! 😉

Participanta few of us from the #bigblueball chat occasionally use Skype to talk, but i dont use it for anything other than that. i know i did try it once last year (or was it two years ago? i dont remember) to talk to a friend of mine, but the quality wasnt very good. could have been my computer or hers, who knows.
anyway, i agree with jeff on this one. it is a “bit of a tangent” since its not really IM. it does involve instant communication over the internet though, so who knows. personally i’m expecting ALL phone service to eventually become like VoIP; i dont know when, but sometime.
