Connecting to the BigBlueBall chatroom with Trillian
If you have Trillian installed, then it’s very easy to have it connect to our chat server here at BigBlueBall. This guide should get you pointed in the right direction.
First, make sure that you have IRC enabled. Go to Trillian’s preferences, and click “Plugins”. Make sure “IRC” is checked, as shown below:
After enableing IRC, go to “Identities and Connections” and click “Add Connection”. You should see something similar to this:
Fill in the appropriate info:
- Server Alias: BigBlueBall IRC (can be whatever you want)
- Server: irc.bigblueball.com:6667 (This has to match exactly!)
- Nickname: (Pick a unique, short nickname for yourself)
- Username: (The server uses this, it has no real meaning. Most people just set this to be the same as their nickname)
- User Info: (Can be anything you want. People see this when they request your information from the server)
Afterwards, click “Connect”, then “Close”. go to your Trillian, select the IRC protocol, and click Join Channel.
Type in #BigBlueBall.
Hit enter or click “OK”.
That’s it! You’re chatting!
I think Trillian is one of the easiest independant clients to actually connect to IRC with, but it doesn’t have as much functionality as mIRC. It’s a preference for the most part, people use what they’re most comfortable with.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to make a new thread in our IRC forums or post in this general thread.
