KeymasterI’m testing a super lightweight version of the BigBlueBall forums that will load as fast as possible, and will work with most handheld PCs and PDAs.
If you’d like to check it out, go to:
https://bigblueball.com/forums/index.php?s=&styleid=13
To revert back to the default style, go to:
https://bigblueball.com/forums/index.php?s=&styleid=9
Let me know what you think!

KeymasterHelp me test, please.
Using this lightweight style, the forum home should look similar to the attached image.

Participantit doesn’t display any differently for me, in either Firefox or IE….

ParticipantIt doesn’t change the style for me either Jeff.

KeymasterI changed a few settings. Try it now and let me know if it works.

MemberIt works great! A couple things I am trying to point out in my 3 shots. In the first show you can see that I was able to log in just fine. In the third shot you can see if I deselect “fit to screen,” the horizontal scrollbar is long because the lines extend to the right.. which is fine because fit to screen is on by default. The second shot is this thread, with fit to screen enabled. I was going to half the size of the shots, but I thought the larger shots were more clear and potentially more helpful.
Oh yeah, my Pocket PC’s screen resolution is “QVGA,” or 240×320, not VGA 480×640 as modern Pocket PCs are.

Participanti clicked the new posts shortcut button i have (instead of linking the button to the forum main page, it links to a new posts search) and it came up as the “light” version of the site instead of the normal version. at first i thought something was wrong, but then realized it’s the pocketpc version and noticed the dropdown menu to change from mobile to regular. changed to the default setting, everything worked fine. a few minutes later, clicked the new post shortcut again and suddenly was back to the mini-layout. glitch?

Next time, try a refresh and see if that resolves the problem.July 12, 2005 at 3:26 pm #125935Jeff Hester
KeymasterOk, I’ve created a few enhancements, but in a new style. Try this:
https://bigblueball.com/forums/index.php?styleid=14
And see the attached screenshots for examples of how it looks on my iPAQ.
I’ve also added a browser-detection routine. If you’re running a PDA or mobile phone, Blackberry or even Lynx, the forums will auto-detect this and display the mobile style.

MemberThe PDA style looks excellent! Simple, loads fast, I’m impressed. Now all you need is BBB on a cell phone, which is what I’d use more than a PDA.

ParticipantHey Jeff, does this still work? I just checked it out on my Blackberry, and the site loads as it normally would .. or maybe I haven’t configured something right on my PDA..

KeymasterNope. I need to reinstall this theme. I will try to get to it tomorrow. (class tonight)
