MemberI mean i would like to make it so that when i click on the icon, it opens up with netscape.

KeymasterYou need to configure Netscape as your default web browser. Normally when you launch Netscape, it will perform a check for this unless you or someone else using that computer has told it not to. Otherwise, check the Netscape help for the specific details on how to set it as the default web browser.

MemberNetscape IS my default browser!

Keymasterfatchef45, the shortcut for the BigBlueBall Smiler uses javascript to launch a right-sized window without all the usual browser stuf (menus, address bar, toolbar, etc.). It appears that IE “thinks” it is the default program for javascript. I’m not sure how to get around that. The only other thing I could suggest is bookmarking https://bigblueball.com/im/aim/smileys.asp instead, then closing it after you launch Smiler from that page.

Membergreat job on the new smiler Jeff, looking forward to seeing them all up there. i still am having some problems on my machine that i think are still unanswered. A few of them like the snowmen NEVER work. you have doubled checked the code and some of the other members have too from post i’ve read. And they work on other computers obviously. does anyone know why they won’t work for me? i can’t think of any reason – most of them work fine.

I see the snowmen, and most of the people I share them with also see them (but not all). I wonder if it could be a function of memory, operating system, AIM version, time of day, humidity or lack of humor that’s causing the problem?
Provide some details about your system and I’ll see what I can figure out.

MemberWOW, and I mean WOW. I am amazed at how many smilees there are now!!! One request though, please have a category: “ALL” because when you switch categories whatever you had in the text window that you will be pasting gets cleared(I know I can copy and paste the text first, THEN switch categories, it’s just an additional step), plus I like to just browse through the whole list of all the smilees. Again, WOW.
–But yes the snowmen do not show up for me, and I see that my computer HAS cached the images (I can even look at the images), I even see using FILEMON that AIM OPENS the snowmen cache file and reads the images from it, but alas, they don’t show up. So I would agree with you that it is just some strange phenomenon-emon-menon:D But THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES for all your hard work making something so amazing, and then making it free for the world!

KeymasterI’m starting to feel like the kid in the movie, The Sixth Sense… “I see snowmen…”

I didn’t think about the text area clearing when you pick a different category. I’m a little reluctant to throw in an “all” category because it’ll just take so damn long to load all the graphics. Would a “New” category suffice? It could highlight the recently added ones?

MemberI’ve got windows ME with 356 MB RAM and 12 free GB on my hard drive. Aim version is 5.1.3036 with a broadband connection. I don’t think there is more recent full release of AIM although it could be the ME causing problems (it wouldn’t be the first time)

MemberAIM/AOL Smileys are controlled by AOL’s servers. So when you send or recieve the SML font code to a chat session it downloads the GIF images to the pc into a bartcache directory. Once they have been cached to your pc there is no reason for it to be cached to your pc again. In the case of the Snowman, AOL doesn’t even have it as a selection for their AOL memembers so either they no longer offer that particular smiley or they are having server problems. Any user that has the Snowman already cached to their pc should continue to see it. 🙂

And it would only be slow for people with slow connections, and once they went to the other categories, then the have the pics cached as well. So if you are willing to program it I would LOVE to have an “ALL” category.
Please, Please, Please 😎
