October 30, 2005 at 8:10 pm #132699TigerbladeParticipantto do… what?
October 30, 2005 at 8:12 pm #132704SpikeMemberI really don’t think we need our own toolbar, is it really all that hard to just add a bookmark as a button, click it, and come to this site?

October 30, 2005 at 8:14 pm #132700TigerbladeParticipantRSS Feed – If you’re using Firefox, you already have an RSS feed link. At the bottom right corner of the window should be an orange square with some white curves in it. that’s your RSS subscription button.
Link to BBB – it’s called a bookmark.
Forum search and Arcade – also can be bookmarked, otherwise the site itself has those links.
I really don’t think a toolbar would be necessary, unless you can come up with some REALLY good idea.
October 30, 2005 at 9:41 pm #132702dreadMemberWhat you mean Tigerblade when you said unless you can come up with some really good idea? I just think it would be good to have a toolbar like http://www.neowin.net/ has. Forums, irc chat, news etc.. on the toolbar. Nice, simple and fast.

Ok, I searched the Neowin site and couldn’t find this toolbar, do you have a more direct link to show us this example? Perhaps this would help us understand why it would be so useful. Thanks!October 30, 2005 at 10:51 pm #132701TigerbladeParticipantdread wrote:What you mean Tigerblade when you said unless you can come up with some really good idea? Nice, simple and fast.i mean that unless you can come up with something really unique and innovative that isnt already readily accessible through a bookmark or simple link on the site…. a toolbar would be unnecessary. as i mentioned before, you can already subscribe to the RSS feed through firefox, and anything else is as simple as a click away. unless you want something like scrolling news or something… i just dont think it’s necessary. an interesting idea, perhaps, but not necessary.i also couldnt find the neowin toolbar.
October 30, 2005 at 11:16 pm #132703dreadMemberLook here Shifter. But don’t look like to many people care for the idea, I think it would be cool though. Oh well just another idea that got shot down lol.
October 31, 2005 at 12:32 am #132694detn8rParticipantThat’s too bad. Why does everyone seem to shun down ideas? If the man wants a tool bar, there’s going to be two. And why not please a senior member with something that could be fun, innovative and useful with what he asks for?
It can’t be that bloody hard. Instead of complaining about how the idea sucks, you could use more initiative and possibly treat BBB’s members with a little something nice?
Come on folks…………….

Come on folks…………….Although this seems to happens with many suggestions, I think you’ve overreacting here. I haven’t read anything about the idea sucking. It’s usefulness simply wasn’t clearly explained, causing everyone to wonder why this is a good idea. Now that he’s given us an example of another leading forum’s toolbar, perhaps some more constructive ideas might develop.
I actually liked the idea. The neowin example certainly helps see its possible usefulness. I like the idea of searching from the toolbar, and the links directly into the forum categories, as well as the buttons for IRC chat. The fading news posts is a nice touch too, this could be a cool way to see the new posts on BBB.
Perhaps if we could come up with some more BigBlueBall specific ideas for the Toolbar, it could help convince its usefullness.
October 31, 2005 at 1:42 am #132707MrEggsaladParticipantNew Posts, How ’bout PM? Fourm Search, and an IRC link(of course most people who would actually get the toolbar and use IRC are on mIRC of Trillian). Now I know Tiger said that those all can be bookmarked or whatever, but I really don’t know of any other ideas for a toolbar. And…heh how would it get made? Would we have a company make it? Or would someone here code it?
November 1, 2005 at 5:25 am #132698shifterMemberI think this pretty much a volunteer based idea. If someone has the skills to take this on (and wants to), speak up! Det? 😛
I sure as heck don’t know the first thing about creating toolbars.
November 1, 2005 at 12:30 pm #132708MrEggsaladParticipantI actually did some research about it and found there were a few really good tutorials on this. Like this one here: http://www.borngeek.com/firefox/tutorial/
However, much more than I want to do right now so, if there is anyone else, then go for it! -
