I got so far in one night I thought I’d share what I came up with so far.
Here’s a screenshot of the template I’m porting from Jeff’s mockup
It’s not perfect, I know. There’s still stuff wrong / missing / etc, but you’ve gotta admit it’s a start. 🙂
June 23, 2007 at 3:27 pm #162361DavidParticipantIt looks great, but those buttons at the top, I hope the row under them doesn’t change as soon as you mouseOut on the blue button. If thats the case it’ll be very hard to “Forums > My Profile” quickly, without selecting “IM Centers”
June 23, 2007 at 8:28 pm #162365SpikeMemberGot the footer to work. The blue text there is when you move your mouse over each section.
Oh yeah… Rejoice! It’s now Firefox-Compatible! 🙂 for the most part… ¬¬

I think what will happen is when you mouseOut it will revert back to the setion you’re currently viewing.

June 23, 2007 at 10:37 pm #162367SpikeMemberHey, I’m just duplicating what Jeff gave me to work with. Talk to the man with the mockup about that, or give me suggestions on HOW to make them prettier… “eh”? 😉

That has nothing to do with what I’m talking about, how the heck else would it work if it didn’t? OnMouseOut should never do anything, everything with this type of design is handled by OnMouseOver and onClick
the onMouseOver event will be fired for the IM Centers tab. There needs to be either a delay implemented, or forcing a click on the top-level button.
June 24, 2007 at 4:00 am #162351Jeff HesterKeymasterI am going to force a top level click. The forum menus won’t show unless you are already IN the forum section of the site, and so on.
June 24, 2007 at 4:39 am #162363DavidParticipantI worry with forcing the click it will appear to do nothing. How about some animation on the level 2 text? maybe it could ‘fall out’ from under the top menu when you click?
June 24, 2007 at 4:52 am #162352Jeff HesterKeymasterDavid, the second level will not even show unless you are viewing a second level. So it won’t appear to do nothing.
The second level is shown in the mockup merely to provide an example.
June 30, 2007 at 11:09 pm #162375MrEggsaladParticipantSorry, I have to say I dislike this design. I see it as just a Mac knock-off type thing, and I don’t want people to see BBB and think Mac even for a split second. I’d rather this be completely it’s own. I had made that one design and I honestly like it. Now this isn’t a “Why didn’t you use my design” like thing at all, I am just saying, I’d rather we have some other design instead of what is currently being proposed.
July 3, 2007 at 2:04 am #162368SpikeMemberUpdate: The navigation bug has been fixed in Firefox and all is well.
We’ve installed Drupal and even skinned it to look identical to the new theme. Our current status is skinning the s**t out of it to make it a little more friendly to people, and then from there we’ll tie in vBulletin (that’s my favorite part… I can spend DAYS customizing and theming vBulletin <3). Things are moving along very smoothly, folks.
I’ve only let a select few people access the site right now (you know who you are, so please do NOT share the link), and when everything’s all good for an alpha test, I’ll open it up to you guys, then the Premieres (maybe), then… the WORLD! (Can’t you tell? I’m excited. :))
It’s coming… get ready! 😀
July 3, 2007 at 7:23 pm #162369SpikeMemberWe’re movin’ along nicely, folks. This is dynamic content created by Drupal. The site look identical in Opera, Firefox, and IE7 with the exception of the very top grey bar being a tad short in Opera (god damn standards compliance…) 😉

Maybe if the mac-looking-wallpaper was blended into where the white is, but a little lighter, it would look more uniform… I would also suggest the “Join our LIVE chat!” stand out just a tad more, because all of us want more people in IRC, right?
Is there a point to the red outlining of this? Design should only include what is needed…Just looks a little out-of-the-blue, to me.
Also, the alignments should be limited to one or two, ideally, and I see four. I know I’ve complained about this before, but it actually plays a major role in design.
This current design does not fit into design C.R.A.P.(I know, it’s funny. :p) (Contast, Repetition, Allignment, Proximity) all that comfortably… More info on what Design C.R.A.P. is can be found here.
I think your current design would be amazing if you morphed it a little to look more like this site’s (note the blending of background) they are featured on StyleGala.com’s Gallery, which is a reputable website about web design and design standards.
…Sorry for getting so technical, ever since I took advertising and design, I notice alot more in design. However, it is the technical things that can make your design all the better.
I do appreciate the time and effort that you must have taken to put this up, good job! (+rep)
Hope this helps! 🙂
July 4, 2007 at 3:31 am #162370SpikeMemberThanks for the feedback, Oats. Keep in mind we’re still in an early stage here. Your comments really do make sense and help, though.
To comment on one of them, the white contrast… we plan to have the white ‘float’ above the background by adding a shadow all around it, which, as you said, will give it a better ‘blend’ effect.
And the red border was my screen capture utility, there’s no way we’d have such an ugly thing on the site 😉
