I was wondering if there is a possible way to get rid of the ads in yahoo chat room, it would be ok if the ads were on the messenger window, but in the chat it gets rather annoying, is there anyway of blocking these ads?

Once signed in paste this into your address bar and hit enter http://chat.yahoo.com/c/voice/app.html itll open java chat and the add window will be in a seperate explorer window which you can close also youll need to know the exact room name you want to join. To join a room just try /join and whatever room name into the text input box where you send text to the room ie…. /join politics lobby:1 but it has to be exact get this app http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/yahrools/ to see all room names on all servers world wide when you clik on a room name it autiomatically copies to clipboard then you put the cursor back in the java window and do cntrl v to paste . i hope this helps.

If using Y!M (and not the java applet), I can propose you an solution of mine to get rid of ad banners. I have modified the registry so that it doesn’t point no more to yahoo ad banner URLs, but to a HTML file, underneath your yahoo messenger directory (“blank.html”).
I’ve made this little file that you can download on your disk and double-click to change your yahoo registry : http://kiban.free.fr/yahoo/tmp/no_ad_in_msgr.reg
I’ve made many tests and it works for my Windows 98 SE. It won’t work if you installed your Y!M in another place than the default directory unless you edit the file and modify the target (with just a text editor)

It contains a great little utility that replaces the ad at the bottom of the chat room window with a graphic image. Also prevents the room window from resizing all the time. Works with both Java and non Java clients.
One word of caution though, the instructions say to close YIM and you must close it at the icon level in the win task bar.

Check out this site. It has a step by step direction on how to disable ads in yahoo messenger. I haven’t personaly tried it as I used y!tunnel, but you can give it a try.

May 27, 2003 at 3:11 pm #99516NettiMemberI agree with snugle. Go to Ytunnel. You don’t only want to disable the ads so their is a blank screen at the bottom of your chat window, or it is replaced with a picture, but you want to get rid of the ads all together. Ytunnel gives you the entire screen for chat. No ads anywhere!!!!!
