MemberHi,
with so much booting/kicking going on in yahoo messenger, this makes me wonder, do we also have any booters or programs which can boot ppl in MSN and AIM ? If MSN and AIM dont have any booters or such programs then why does Yahoo has such problems? Cant yahoo do something with its messenger, that stops booting?November 28, 2004 at 10:50 am #106128kron_19792000
MemberI am sure that there are booters out there for MSN too I am not sure about AIM since I have never used it. But then using the same method that you use to make a booter for yahoo it is possible to create one for MSN and I have not been to a MSN chat room in a while as a matter of fact I can not get into a chat room now.
I think it is more a case of not many people using MSN chat.November 28, 2004 at 6:18 pm #106126shifter
ParticipantActually, I can’t speak for AIM, but in MSN there are chat room owners/hosts which already have the power to “kick” chatters out of the chat room. This will remove a user from the chatroom, but has no effect on there IM client. Because Yahoo! Chatrooms do not offered a host or owner in any of their rooms, users developed “booting” to get rid of problem chatters. Unfortunately this booting is now used at the expense of others, usually without legitimate reasoning. If Yahoo had this basic feature from the start, I doubt booting would ever have been neccessary.

MemberI was wondering shifter how would yahoo implement a feature where a person could “kick” another person off in a yahoo public chat room, who would decide? In a private room or a room created by a person I could understand the “kick” feature and personally I would love to see it implemeted but I do not see it happening in a public room since no one person created the room.
Edit: By the way shifter where the heck is the chat room option on MSN I do not think I could find it if my life depended on it right now…..

MemberI rather like Yahoo’s decision to give everyone the opportunity to control who is in their room by the use of the ignore button. Unfortunately as with many things in life, some people will always try to have the illusion of power. All we can do is fight back by not letting them have power over us.
As experienced chatters know, ignoring the lamers and turning off PMs/Invites goes a long way to helping reduce the booting even if you are using messenger. Using a chat client generally increases the boot protection level, and some offer an additional feature where you can ‘send’ your voice to another room, allowing you to talk to your friends (assuming they are also using a client that supports the /vj command) without getting hassled by lamers/bots/booters and others of that ilk.
Remember, Yahoo Chat is only one small area of Yahoo and as it is provided as a ‘free’ service one can only guess that there is not a high priority placed on its development. Yahoo does patch and fix the exploits that are used for booting, but occassionally in patching one area new exploits are created or old ones re-opened, so be careful what you wish for.

MemberHonestly, I dont understand why we have so much booters for yahoo, not as much for AIM or MSN. If MSN implements some Chat owner who has the “booting” powers, then let me see.. Suppose Yahoo implements such type of owner who has these powers. But I am sure, the guys in that chat room will make him a target and boot him first. So I guess it will be humiliating for that person.
Its hilarious sometimes to see people coming to chat rooms and calling themselves as the “Yahoo Room Administrator” and boot any people they want. About turning off the PMs, gives some kind of relief, but suddenly, I came face to face with a new booting thing which boots every one in the room. Its called a Room Booter, where the person who is booting the room, just shows as:
booter_id: !
booter_id: !
booter_id: !
and bam.. u are kicked out, even if u were sitting peacefully and talking nicely to a bunch of people on net. Its soo powerful that it just jams your computer untill u reboot. One might ask us to use yahoo clients. But lemme think. Arent some Yahoo clients also free? If yahoo client being free can provide some kind of protection against booters, then why can’t Yahoo Messenger itself?
Even if Yahoo messenger has a small area of Yahoo, but I guess, its been used by most people than any other services( excluding Yahoo! mail ). So why not give it a shot and make Yahoo Messenger booter proof?
