Hi,
today I was just experimenting with my laptop with some boot screens.
I have windows xp SP1. I went to themexp.org and downloaded a new boot screen. In the “how to install” page ( http://www.themexp.org/how_install.php ), it asked to make a backup copy of ntoskrnl.exe and replace the original ntoskrnl.exe file with the new file. (Please see the instructions in that website to have a clear idea what I am doing. )
My laptop has the file named ntoskrnl.exe. So instead of deleting the ntoskrnl.exe of my temporary drive, and renaming the ntoskrnlsp.exe to ntoskrnl.exe, I simply copied the ntoskrnl.exe file to Windows/system32/ ( but making sure that I hv a backup copy of the original ntoskrnl.exe file ). I did all this in safe mode as directed in the web page. But now the problem is when I restart, the new boot screen loads ( and looks cool ) but after its loaded ( about 10 seconds ), the screen goes blank and then restarts itself. I dont know whats happening…
Please let me know wats wrong and how to solve this problem.
Thanks.July 12, 2004 at 10:21 pm #41785DavidParticipantThe boot screen is not compatible with your Windows/SP. Revert to your old NTOSKrnl and try again.
