Sorry for getting even more off-topic Graham, but I just got back from Las Vegas with my church choir. We threw festivals for kids where we had all kinds of games, food, sports, etc. Then we would get to do a concert for them, and at the end a pastor of one of the Las Vegas churches came up and spoke for about 5 minutes. It was so much fun, we got to talk to and play games with kids all day, and its always fun getting to hang out with all of your church friends for eight days.
By the way, we go on a trip like this every summer. Last year it was the Bahamas, this year Vegas. I just hope it is somewhere cool next year!

I gotta say that these damn retainers are one of the most stressful things I have ever had to deal with. I know that I have to wear them in order for my teeth to do ANYTHING, yet I either forget or keep telling my self.. “tomorrow”.
Orthodontists keep saying ‘persevere’ but I don’t know WHY it’s so hard to. :crying:
I’ve included a pic I took a few months ago. Not much has changed since it.
February 13, 2007 at 7:51 pm #144694ahoierParticipantmy 14 year old sister recently got braces. She didn’t need to wear any sort of spacer though…it took like 3 weeks to plot out her mouth or whatever they call it, and so yea, she got them on around the 1st of January. She said the first week they hurt like hell, cause they were pulling at her teeth I guess; makes sense, since it pulls them into position I guess.
But yea, she’s alright with them, she’s due for another monthly appointment next week, and that will be the first time she’s getting the braces (bands?) tightened. Her friend went through the same thing though, and he said it usually hurts for like 4 days after getting them tightened (which is like every 4 weeks or something I guess).
I guess, like they say, no pain no gain 😛
BTW, braces horror story; my mom knew a girl who got her braces put on by some “traveling doctor” lol never heard of such a thing, but anyways, her parents never scheduled a follow up appointment; and supposidely the doctor is no longer living or moved out of state or something….lol. It’s sooo sad, but she’s stuck with these braces on her teeth because no dentist wants the responsibility of removing the braces….lol…
So, in short, be sure to stay ontop of those follow up appointments 😛 And……don’t goto “traveling” doctors? :<
@drain – my sister is going through that same process. Two of her adult teeth are supposidely full-grown, and still in the gums; so after a couple months or so of the braces being on, they have to do surgery on her gums; extract the baby tooth; attach chains to the adult tooth, and gradual pull it down…lol. it sounds sooo painful; but they will probably give her good pain killers ^^Im sorta in the same boat as you though, I know eventually I’m going to need them; I got lots of crowding on the buttom teeth.
February 16, 2007 at 3:16 am #144675gossipingraeMemberthe dentist said i never needed braces, but i probably should have gotten them. my dad’s company is self-insured, but dental insurance was never covered. so we always paid for our dental checkups ourselves. which is why i’m guessing my parents didnt want to shell out 7 grand for braces!
they have something out for a while now i’ve seen on tv called invisalign…some kind of clear retainer that is supposed to work just as well as braces…so if someone needs straight teeth, you might wanna check into those.
February 16, 2007 at 11:21 am #144693metagirlMemberMy boyfriend had braces for like.. 3 years. He was not at all pleased with them. He’s saying that braces actually ruined his teeth. 😐
Well, fingers crossed, man.. But I dunno why you would want them, anyway. Don’t know for sure, but I really think your teeth actually look beautiful.April 18, 2009 at 5:22 pm #144669detn8rParticipantWell, finally got the news I get the braces off May 7. Can’t wait 😀

May 8, 2009 at 3:24 am #144664Jeff HesterKeymasterCongratulations! I’ve never had braces myself, but all three of my kids did, so I have some idea of what a PITA they can be.
May 8, 2009 at 10:28 am #144692Doris KenneyParticipantVery nice pic! I had ’em myself many centuries ago and they were no fun. I know how glad you are to be rid of them – but look how fantastic it turned out!!!
