I found this neat new layout I’d like to use for my website, but when I preview them from the website hosting them, the layout looks perfect, no broken images. Whenever I upload the images to my server and view my website, the images don’t show up and all i see is a small icon which indicates that the image failed to load. How can I fix this?
(by the way, the images are all .gifs)
March 27, 2005 at 1:25 am #117596shifterMemberYou’ve likely uploaded the images to the wrong place. Right-click on the broken image and select Properties and look at the location of where the image is supposed to be. Then move the images to that location.

If you upload image1.gif to your server and it’s supposed to be in images/image1.gif, it won’t work. You have to be very careful. If you can’t figure it out, go to the page where it does work and if you can, view the source to see where the images are trying to be taken from.
March 27, 2005 at 3:22 am #117602FirefoxManMemberhrm… this stuff isn’t my strong suit lol, I only recently moved to a host where I must use FTP to upload all of my files. Currently, I have only a CGI-bin folder. All I did was upload my image files and index.htm onto the server (but not inside the cgi-bing)
basically whenever I open up my ftp client, it looks like this:
l CGI- Bin l
image 1.gif
index.htmlhope that helps lol, sorry… I’m still learning this stuff!
March 27, 2005 at 3:30 am #117599TigerbladeParticipantwell, could you give us a link to the layout you’re trying to use? or a screenshot of what you’re looking at? or the source code of the page you’re using? etc…
also, something else i just thought of… depending on your browser, spaces in filenames arent handled properly sometimes. if that’s a space in “image 1.gif” it might not read it correctly. mostly its just in older browsers, but you might want to try replacing any spaces with underscores so the filename would be image_1.gif or image1.gif…
i still think if we could see what you’re looking at, it’d be much easier to solve…

Do you have a link that doesn’t require me to sign up for a membership to view it?EDIT: Nevermind, I just signed up anyway. I can see your page, but I don’t see any broken images? What is it supposed to look like?
March 27, 2005 at 4:07 am #117604FirefoxManMemberSorry about that last link… This is as close as I can get. Both of these layouts have the same problem that I’ve described above. Look at them here
March 27, 2005 at 4:11 am #117598shifterMemberWhere’s the missing images?
March 27, 2005 at 4:14 am #117605FirefoxManMemberwell the images on those two layouts, do not load whenever I upload them to my server. (I know this is kind of annoying to some of ya’ll, but please bear with me!)
March 27, 2005 at 4:22 am #117600TigerbladeParticipantand you’re sure you’re keeping the right directory structure? i downloaded the “gomen” template, and the title picture (the only picture on that page that i see) is located in the “src_files” directory. if you just load an image to the same directory as your index page, then that image will fail to load. you can change the name of the directory your images are stored in, or you can keep everything in one folder, as long as your tags are changed to reflect the actual image locations
March 27, 2005 at 4:30 am #117606FirefoxManMemberholy moly! It worked… I dunno what happened but it’s fixed. Wow! Well ok, nvm ya’ll… I feel so stupid and embarrassed right now, sorry to trouble ya’ll, I really dunno what fixed this problem, 5 minutes ago, the images wouldn’t load. Sorry! 🙁
March 27, 2005 at 4:37 am #117601TigerbladeParticipantbah, no worries. as long as it works, that’s the main thing. if you figure out what was wrong, let us know!
