I am using Aim 6.9 and my buddy icon is just the shadow on the main AIM interface.
I have a buddy icon selected but it wont display it on the main page. I logged in with a 5 yr old screen name and it displays some waterfall icon which resembles a windows icon but not that names buddy icon.
Any ideas on what is going on?
update:
if I use an aim certified icon it will display in the mini icon portion near status message bar
but If I use a created icon it wont, why?
The small icon in the Buddy List is only defined for AOL official icons.
AIM 7 has a new feature that lets you upload larger 100×100 custom icons and shows them in the Buddy List when a user is online.

If you mean the water drop into pool of water icon, then that was one of the default buddy icons set when the account was created a long time ago.
