I’ve heard people can be warned by having an icon, is this true? and if so how do people do it?
It used to be that way. The exploit has been patched by AOL if i’m not mistaken.

Obviously it is because you don’t understand why.
The way this worked (I think, I never used it but I”ll assume this is the general way) is that the user sends the request for your icon, when your client responds, the AOL server will now allow the other user to warn you, because you have ‘responded’ to the user.
how would I request someones icon? I noticed in 5.5 you cant veiw all your buddies icons in the prefs. menu like you could in 5.2 if that has to do with it
You cannot do it with the AIM client itself, but it is in the OSCAR protocol.
oh alright
