hello all,
i freshly reformated my computer and installed AIM. I logged onto my name and I thought everything would be ok but when I loaded my buddy list I had saved prior to the reformat, everything loaded fine EXCEPT AIM removed all my buddies from my buddy list and refuses to let me load it again or even retype them.
Whenever I try, it gives me the Error Message “One or more of the additions or modifications to your Buddy List were not able to be saved.”
I logged onto my other sn and did the same exact procedure and it worked without a hitch. So maybe I thought my computer mite have done somehting, so I installed the newest AIM on my dad’s computer and the same problem exists. IT only happens to THIS sn. I have no clue what else to do, does anyone have suggestions or should I just abandon this sn (which I would rather not do).
Thanks for any help…

The list saved on your computer is helpful if you want to merge with the one from a different SN or if you want to recover some contact.
Assuming your Windows is XP, the saved list is encrypted by winxp, you can only read it from the same winxp user account. To make the list readable after losing your winxp you need to export it to a FAT32 partition.

December 10, 2004 at 3:55 am #108036aneagleParticipantWhy did you load the saved buddy list? when you log-on AIM, the list is sent from AIM server to your computer and displayed in the buddy list window. You don’t need to load the locally saved list, you do it only in case you delete some SN by mistake and you want to recover it. AIM server always stores your current buddy list and updates it every time you make a change.
Now you got a blank list after loading it, this means you saved list is corrupted or encrypted and becomes unreadable, your list on AIM server is updated with a corrupted copy, you lost everything. I don’t think there’s a way to recover it.
FYI, people got trouble with AIM these days, may be the real problem is on AIM server, have a look at this https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16642

December 10, 2004 at 5:06 am #108037aneagleParticipantI forgot about the limit, 200 is the max number of SN you can have on your list, you have trouble adding/editing after that.
