Hello.
I’m the author of BuddyCheck, a new shareware Yahoo! Messenger status checker. Unlike other such applications, BuddyCheck displays in an intuitive way the online status of the checked contacts.
I’m waiting for your feedback.
April 10, 2006 at 1:40 am #141688lizzy_buggy4uMemberDoes the status checker also tell you if and for how long a buddy has been idle or if they are currently active even if their messenger doesnt say how long?
June 6, 2006 at 1:32 am #141689katesMemberall I got when I downloaded the program was an error message AND a Trojan Dropper
June 8, 2006 at 3:32 pm #141685Eagle_KiwiMemberHello Kate,
Now THAT sounds serious! I haven’t actually tried BuddyCheck, and don’t know anyone who has – but after your post I at least downloaded the 326k install file and ran it through AVG which found no problem in it.
Can anyone confirm/deny with some other AV proram(s) ?And Kate, can you provide any more specific detail about the trojan – and especially whether you’re certain it came from THAT file, or could it have reached you from some other source at about the same time, by coincidence ?
Anyway, although Adal’s post, and indeed the site, look “professional”, I’m not impressed that although he asked for feedback he’s never bothered coming back to tackle it.
In meantime I’d suggest anyone interested in this program be EXTREMELY wary.
June 8, 2006 at 8:58 pm #141684NessaParticipantWell i’ve actually been meaning to give a quick review for this program since i tried it long ago but never go around to it, but here it goes:
First off this program is clean of viruses, so kates you might have gotten that from somewhere else.
I like the interface of this program because it’s just like a buddy list and it can be programmed to scan everyone within minute intervals while in others it’ll do it in 5-minute intervals. It does show how long they’ve been on-line and when was the last time they were seen on-line (since last time you ran program, of course).
It does not check webcam or chatroom status and does not keep a log.
In my opinion it is not worth the 20 bucks when you can use a free one to do the same thing (which people should donate a bit too or else they will no longer be free).
So in the end, yes it works for what it’s suppose to do, but the fact that there is other free-working one’s out there, the price isn’t worth it. But this is just my opinion… others may think it’s worth their money…
June 12, 2006 at 12:37 am #141690katesMemberI’m absolutely certain that the Trojan came from that source as you will see from the AVG log file below.

We’re talking about BuddyCHECK here, not BuddySPY (there are plenty of threads about, and links to, BuddySPY here I think).KateS – thank you, that was BRILLIANT being able to post that “evidence” !
Yes indeed, it looks conclusive to me – even though both HatedJ and I have downloaded presumably the same file, and found nothing untoward.I’d just suggest to anyone BEWARE of this program – it MAY be ok, but then it MAY contain a virus – and the author, Adal, has not jumped up to defend it, so MY feeling would be to stay well away! (Unless/until “proven” otherwise).
June 16, 2006 at 7:35 pm #141693kumariMemberDear,
I have checked this program by two differnt AV but I have found no any Virus activity.
So there another possible reason due to which your AV program detected the Virus. There are some virus which are downloaded somehow during web suffering from websites by clicking any link and at that time your AV might have not detected due to any problem and that file may infect other files also.
So this is my advice to you that plz check your whole computer full system scan.
Then again download your buddycheck I think this may solve your problem.
ENJOY !:D 😎 :new:
June 18, 2006 at 10:06 am #141687Eagle_KiwiMemberFor the record, I’ve now checked that file with AVG AND one or 2 other quite separate AV progs, and find it clean – so must agree with HatedJ and with Kumari.
I think maybe we’ll never know . . for SURE!?
But I still feel perhaps no smoke without fire – beware!?June 19, 2006 at 12:26 am #141691katesMemberIn no way do I claim to be an expert here and my only intention was to advise that when I tried to dl the programme, there was a problem. Bad timing perhaps. In response to Kumari’s post, I do have my AV and Spyware programmes running and updated on a regular basis….
Have checked the file again and this time it is clean. -
