MemberI dunno if this is just me but…Is anyone else getting old posts to show up as new? There doesn’t seem to be a pattern to it, but I found 5 threads in Computer Support that I’d already read, but appeared new. I know I could fix this with the “Clear Post Notifications” button, but I’m not sure if I’ll skip over something I should have read. Just reporting what I saw. I’ll manage it, but is anyone else having this problem, or am I going crazy?

ParticipantI have it too, I just posted a couple of messages in a row in msn support and i dont see them in “New posts”, i see older ones.
I’m not sure if the fact that I posted those messages with “quick reply” plays any role to that.January 17, 2006 at 2:12 am #136459Tigerblade

I’m not sure if the fact that I posted those messages with “quick reply” plays any role to that.i’ve noticed that once you post in a topic, that topic disappears from the “new posts” listing… i assumed that’s how it was supposed to work in this new version. now that you’ve posted in that topic, you’ve quite obviously read it, and it’s no longer ‘new’ to you, so it gets dropped from that list.

KeymasterIt’s not a bug, it’s a feature. 🙂
Yesterday I turned on the ability (new with vB 3.5) to track “read” posts by the database. This gives you an accurate picture of what you’ve actually read and what you haven’t, even across multiple sessions. They are categorized in the “new posts” search results so you’ll first see the “old school” new posts, then posts that aren’t new since your last session, but which you haven’t read.
Messages YOU post won’t show up in YOUR “new posts” view.
And there MIGHT be some weirdness since I just turned it on… it’s only started tracking so it should make more sense in a week or so.

MemberOh, so it doesn’t track by whether you’ve logged on or whatever it used to do…you have to physically “read” (or browse to) the thread for it to be marked as read? If what I said was accurate, then that’s a very nice improvement. 🙂

KeymasterRight. The “old” way was really broken when you think about it. If you came to the site and signed in, but didn’t actually look at any threads, then signed out and immediately signed back in… that would in effect clear all topics as having been “read” (even though you didn’t). This method is much better.
