Qwerty
MemberWell the bushfire season is here once again in Australia. Earleir in the month at least 8 people were killed in bushfires in South Australia. In the past week there have been several delibretly lit fires all around the outskirts of Perth (where I live) but I didnt really notice it until today. I woke up and looked out my window and everything had an orange tinge even though the fire was ages away. Looking down the hallway there was even some smoke in the house. At about 11:30 I walked up my street to the highway to catch the bus to the beach. Looking down the highway it was thick with smoke and cars all had their headlights on. There was even ash falling from the sky. Probably the worst day I can remember. Only because all the smoke was blown over the city though. Usually there would only be a bit of smoke and you would be able to see where it was comming from looking accorss the river but today it was impossible to even see the otherside of the river. Watching the news tonight they said that firemen thought that the same guy had lit about six seperate fires and they had all linked up. Government realeased a $100,000 for reward for dobbing in the guy that did it. Respect to firemen though. I could hardly see 2 kms down the road and I was km’s away. Hopefully we don’t have any more tragedies or fatalities this season. Good luck to any of you guys who may live in NSW.

MemberI read and heard about this. What can be done to prevent such deliberate destruction?
The plants and trees may recover, but chasing the animals out of their habitat is a very sad thing.January 19, 2005 at 3:57 pm #112318gossipingrae
MemberQwert, that’s awful. I hope your family and friends will be okay and nothing bad will happen.
That is kind of similar with what my family went through a few weeks ago with an ice storm. I know fire and ice are two totally different things, but I’ll explain.
Two weeks ago, my town and half of the county had a really bad ice storm. The power was knocked out of our house for 8 days. The ice on the trees was so heavy, there were about 4 in. of ice weighing them down. This caused many many trees in my town to collapse. Of course, you all know I live in the mountains. Two trees fell on my house, on hit my dad’s car, and a big gigantic oak tree fell right in front of our porch steps.
Luckily, no damage was done to the house. Insurance will fix my dad’s car. But seriously, all these trees blocked roads and it took us all day to drive 30 miles to a hotel.
Since we had no power, we had no heat, electricity, phone, or water. We get our water from a well, and the well pump was electric. Which mean, no flushing the toilet.
When we did use the bathroom, we had tomelt ice by the fire to fill up the toilet.Well anyways Qwert, hang in there and be strong. Hopefully a fire will not damage your family’s property the way the ice did to mine.
