Memberhow do you tell a room mate kindly that he smells like **** ..
everytime i walk into the room i have to cover my nose so i can breath! its sooo disgsting. i end up throwing his washing into my basket and taking it to the washouse to get washed! he smells SO bad. and its not a good look if you wanna bring a girl into the room either >_< i really need to tell him. but i don't want to offend the poor bugger. 'you smell, at least clean your feet' haha. but it is his feet >_< sometimes ill walk into the room and ask him what that smell is (when its real bad) and i get this as a reply: “hah i think i can smell it too. i think its my socks. ive worn them for 2 weeks straight now” >_< HELP!!

KeymasterI go for blunt honesty. Then again that is the type of guy I am. I would pretty much tell him to dump his feet in chlorox or kick him out. It would be for his own good that you tell him. You’re worried about offending him? I think you have the right to after he has offended you with his stench.

ParticipantHow about playing “That Smell” by Lynyrd Skynyrd a few times? A few WTF is that smell, or maybe a few flyers for Walmart showing socks on sale?
To be honest, if he doesn’t change his socks, he probably doesn’t change his underwear or even shower? I mean, who showers and puts on the same old socks? The guys a dirt. People need to be reminded of that. There should be no hold back with that.

MemberMaybe try a few subtle, or less subtle hints. Such as, “Have the drains gone again?”, and “I think someone didn’t have enough time to make it to the lavvy.”
Other gems include coming in with a peg over your nose…or, if you can get hold of one, a WW2 gas mask, whereby you would enter the room wearing said attire, and your first actions would be to drop to the floor shouting, “Gas! Gas! Gas!” 😀

MemberIf he keeps this up, why not buy him a new pack of socks? They’re only about $5.00 at Walmart, and if you buy him a “value pack” he will be forced to wear them. (So many socks, He HAS to use them.) Just offer it as a gift, for example, you could say “I got these and thought you might want to use them.” If he still keeps it up, you could sneak in a pair of Oder-Eaters in his shoes while he’s sleeping…:D

Participant*holds up her foot* I went to Le Target *gift certificate, not of my own free will* and got 10 pairs for $10. *sniffs her foot just because she can easily* Yep, nice and clean! *giggle*
But seriously, that’s a serious concern and telling him “Dude…your feet fecking REEK! Take a shower of something” is no more offensive than having to sit there and smell ass wafting around the room *shudder* My brother’s feet were like that…and every day he would stick them in my face and say “DO THEY SMELL LIKE CHEETOS!?!?” One day I got tired of this and while he was sitting on the porch, fixing his skateboard, I took the hose from out back and proceded to hose him down…not just his feet, but all of him.
Got my point across… heh.

MemberI have 3 room-mates to begin with. I admit am not super clean freak, but i keep my mess to myself and my room never stinks. and atleast i can rank myself as 2 in order of cleaness (1 being most clean and 5 being dirtiest).
My other roommate, Cory, he is also as clean as me, does laundry every week like me, and keeps his room smelling good like mine. So no issues with me.
The other two room mates, Brett, and Andrew, they are like the stinkiest guys in the whole campus, especially Brett. They share the room and trust me, we cant even walk through the corridor. there is not a single space in their room to place ur foot, coz everything is covered with papers, mess, uncleaned plates for months, etc etc. Spoiled, irresponsible kids of rich parents. Brett loves cooking and so also Andrew and the whole kitchen was in a complete mess because, cory and me, eat outside and hardly cook and these guys, never clean their dishes, microwaves, sink, nothing.. it stinks down there with unwashed dish lying there for atleast 3 months!!! I tried by putting up notes like “Please clean your respective dishes within 48 hours of use” but no one cared.
Thankfully, Brett moved to another appartment and andrew was alone. His room was fraction bit cleaner earlier and much better but the kitchen remained the same. Cory and me tried to clean as much other areas (living room and all) as possible but the kitchen stinked. and bathroom was also getting dirtier even though i cleaned it at regular intervals of 2 months.
Last week, Cory and me, decided that enough is enough. One afternoon when Andrew was sleeping, we both went down, and packed all the unwashed dishes and utensils and silverwares in a bag and took them out and threw them in Trash Disposal. Job was half over. we spent next 2 hours vacumming the whole living room. Next day cory and me cleaned the bathroom and asked Andrew to clean the kitchen the way it was on Day 1, which he had to do because he had no other choice.. coz he was alone on one side and me and cory were two on the other side.
Finally after two days of frantic cleaning, I can proudly say that our appartment is one of the cleanest one in the whole campus. The dish throwing lesson was great because, it taught him a nice lesson and he will remember to clean his dish within 24 hours of use.
