Hi all !… I have just installed Windows Live Messenger 8 latest beta (0.689).
Does anyone know for sure if my contacts can see the nicknames I have given them ?!! I hope not … (!)
Also what about all the notes I’ve added for them in the new Edit fields ?… (are they also hidden?)
Many thanks in advance !! ![]()
No if I am not mistaking, that is just a new cool feature in WLM so you won’t be bothered if your contacts so annoyingly keep changing their IDs that sometimes you don’t have any clue who they are 😀
🙂 OK, thank you for that Kudo. Yes, it’s a really useful feature if someone i.e. has over 100 contacts… (!) I just want to be 100% sure they can’t see the nicknames I give them. I guess I have to ask some of these contacts to tell me so… Anyone else who has tested that with his/her own contacts ?
Ok I test it for you 😉 I have my roommate on my MSN Messenger.I have a nick for him.he can’t not see it unless he come over to my laptop and check my contact list 😀
Thank you very much Kudo !! 😉
Nope, much like the same features offered by other applications like Messenger Plus!, the custom names feature is client-side only. Only you can see it. Unless of course you copy and paste a conversation…then the cat is out of the bag…
But, on a more serious note, Microsoft are committed to respecting peoples’ privacy and as such no one can see what custom name you have set for them.
Feel free to go wild!
