Hello, Max. Welcome to Live Technical Support. My name is Marvie.
Max stated the question or problem as: How do I remove my screenname from AOL but still be able to use it on AOL Instant Messanger?.
Are you signed on with the same computer that you need assistance with?
You say, yes
AOLTechDMM says, I appreciate the time you have taken for me to handle this issue. Let us try to clear this up for you, Max.
You say, ok
AOLTechDMM says, I understand you would like to delete a screen name on your account and still use it on signing on to AIM service.
You say, yes
AOLTechDMM says, Thank you for the confirmation.
AOLTechDMM says, Before, you still have a period of time to sign on to AIM service even when you delete the AOL screen name but this time once you delete the screen name it is totally blocked from signing on to AIM service.
You say, Is there any way of getting that screenname back for use of AIM?
AOLTechDMM says, Let me explain this for you.
You say, alright
AOLTechDMM says, When a screen name is deleted or an account is cancelled on AOL, AOL will hold the
screen name for at least a fallow period of 6 months. This means that no one can create the screen name so
that the owner could restore it anytime.
AOLTechDMM says, After the fallow period, that is the time you can create the screen name as an AIM screen name or another member can get this screen name as his AOL screen name.
You say, Is there anyway for the owner of the screenname to aprove to un-hold it?
AOLTechDMM says, That is not possible at this time. By default, when you delete the screen name it will be on your RESTORE list.
You say, if I remove it from my restore list will it be available for AIM registration?
AOLTechDMM says, It is not possible for us to remove it from the RESTORE list because it will just be removed from there after the fallow period of atleast 6 months.
You say, oh, I thought there was a feature that said premitly delete this screen name
AOLTechDMM says, You can delete the screen name but not permanently delete it from the restore list.
You say, oh
You say, well thanks anyways
AOLTechDMM says, You’re welcome.
Enjoy the weekend!
AOLTechDMM says, Take care and bye for now, Max!

The session has ended!May 26, 2005 at 4:41 am #122289SULAX50MemberUh, I believe that is misleading information. About 2 years ago, when MSN was running a promotion to quit AOL and join MSN for 20 bucks but keep you AOL SN and use AIM, we fully canceled the SN. IOW, we would cancel the account for AOL and AIM use. However, I believe we turned that off only very recently. If it has not been turned off it will be shortly. This was quite controversial at AOL, and stirred up the pot so to speak. I for one am very glad that this has been turned off.
May 26, 2005 at 8:49 pm #122286smurfMemberI cancelled my AOL account 2 years ago and I still can’t re-register the aco**** for AIM. I believe you have to wait for them to have a screen name dump. That is where all the accounts that haven’t been used in a certain period of time are deleted and are able to be registered again. About a year ago they had one and over 5,000 screen names were able to be registered again. Just wait patienty *for a really long time* and you might be able to get it back.
