ParticipantHello folks,
O/S = XP Pro SP2
Using control panel i removed my old yahoo messenger v6.0.
I downloaded the install pgm from yahoo: msgr7us.exe and tried to run it but the hour glass came on for 3 seconds and thats it…..nothing happens. I also tried to run it from their web page too, run first pgm and then ran 2nd program,,,,agian same results nothing happens.
I went to oldverison.com and found messenger v6.1, downloaded and tried to install it, again nothing happens.
I scanned my personal archive and found an old version 5 which I was able to install, so now im downgraded all the way to ver 5.6.
🙁
Anyone have any ideas why I can’t install ver 7 or even v6.1?
FYI, i have a linksys firewall and the normal port for yahoo is open,,,,as I have been running yahoo messenger for years. Thanks!!

ParticipantRESOLVED:
Two issues:
a) Java SE Runtime was recently upgraded from JRE v1.4.2 to v1.5.0. Apparently the upgraded got corupted. The registry was edited and cleaned with JavaSoft entries; inlcuding program files folder. Then Java JRE v1.5.0 was reinstalled clean.
b) The popup blocking utility called STOPzilla was running in the background in “standby” mode but was still (somehow) interferring with the yahoo messenger ver 6 and ver 7 installers. STOPzilla app was completely halted. Then both messenger 6 and messenger 7 installed without any issues.
What is noteworthy is that the web based messenger fails with JRE v1.5.0. I have reported this issue as well as the Java erorr mesages back to Yahoo Messenger support.
Also IE MUST be your default browser!!!!! and you must have at LEAST ver 6.0!!
hmmmmm, whats wrong with Firefox (my favorite browser!)

ParticipantJava JRE 1.5.0 install issue:
The best way I found to install Java, after having many verisons on my puter is:
a) Use control panel>add/remove programs
—remove Java runtime if present
b) Under C:program files delete the folder Java
c) run cmd : regedit
open folders and delete folders called JavaSoft:
hkey_current_user/software/JavaSoft
hkey_local_machine/software/JavaSoft
d) now re-install Java JRE v1.5.0If you need the full blown offline install version, goto http://java.sun.com
look under:
Developers Home > Products & Technologies > Java Technology > J2SE > Core Java > J2SE 5.0 >
link to d/l ver 1.5.0
