MemberMy daughters friend added a custom animation which does not display anything (I am also using zone alarm so I don’t know if it is because of that) and it has the shortcut of lol. I cannot get rid of it!! First of all I tried delete but when I logged back in it was back. Then I modified it to a different picture….when I logged back in it had changed to the original!! I tried re-naming it & guess what….when I logged back in it was back. I also trawled through the custom animation folders & deleted everything……..and ITS STILL THERE…….arggghhhh
Please help

ModeratorHi Denise:
Welcome to BBB. I assume you’ve tried to remove the emote from WLM’s Tools > Emoticon menu. If you still can’t remove it, try the following steps:
1) Download XnView, a free graphics viewer program, and install it.
2) Once XnView is installed, open it from your Start > Programs menu.
3) In XnView’s main window, click File > Open. Go to this location: C:Documents and Settingsyour usernameApplication DataMicrosoftMSN Messenger. You will see the Open Picture window appear, with numbered folders. Right-click on any empty space in this window. Choose View > Details. Click on the Date Modified column header. Find the numbered folder with the earliest date and time. Double-click this folder.
4) Find the Custom Emoticons folder and double-click it. This is where all your emoticons are stored.
5) Click on any emote and provided that the Show Preview box is checked, you can see a preview of the emote.
6) A lot of emotes have the .dat extension. Scroll through until you find the emote that you want removed.
7) Click open to see it in XnView’s main window. Right-click any empty space and click Delete. Or press the Delete button on your keyboard. The emoticon should not appear again in WLM.If you still have problems, please post back. Have a good day…:)

MemberThanks for the reply
Unfortunatley still no joy – the custom animation folders were all empty (I checked every folder). What I don’t understand though is there is another animation which works but also isn’t in the animation folder. Any other ideas??

MemberWhilst mooching on the internet I found another forum which gave an alternative location for the custom animations which is
Cdocuments & settings %userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMessengerObjectStoreCustomEmoticons is the custom emoticon storage folder for WLM 8.1.
I deleted them from this folder & they have finally gone!!!
