MemberI recently switched from Hotmail to Gmail. I signed up for a Windows Live Passport with my Gmail and verified my account.
When I try to add someone on WLM with my Gmail account, they do not receive the confirmation message. They are added to my contact list and it is only if they manually add me, we are able to chat. I am not receiving confirmation messages, either.
When I try to add another Gmail account, even if they manually add me back, we are still unable to chat.
It appears to be a problem specially with the Gmail account I am using, because I tried it with another Gmail account and everything appeared to work fine. However, I do not wish to use this account.
Does anyone have the solution?

ParticipantIf you are using version 14.0.8117, this is something of a known issue that many people have experienced. It does seem to be account specific, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason as to why it happens. Other symptoms that often go along with this are appearing offline to your contacts even when you are marked online.
While there is no “real” solution, you can try adding your contacts through a third party program like Meebo, Digsby or Trillian. Since these programs access different servers, you may have luck adding your contacts there. If you can get them added successfully, then you will most likely be able to chat with them normally in WLM after that.
Another option might be to try the public beta of WLM 2010. However, it only runs on Vista and Windows 7. It cannot be used on XP. I have not seen any complaints of this issue with users on the beta version…yet.
Let me know if either of these options helps solve the problem for you.

MemberI had tried with Trillion earlier, but it didn’t seem to work. I gave it a second shot and for whatever reason, it decided to work that time! I hope this is fixed soon, however, because it’s quite frustrating. Thank you very much for your response!
