This is a really annoying problem, I set up a server on my computer using Apache and PHP, and for some reason I cannot view the site, or any files from the site from this computer(the one running the server). Well, I can see things on the site, but only if they are at [InternalIP]/whatever and not http://www.mydomain.aus.cc/whatever Does anyone know why this might happen, and how it might be fixed? I’m hoping it will work out when I get around to purchasing a domain…
It likely has to do with the loopback in your router. I believe Microsoft and maybe Netgear routers have this problem.
Thanks, but do you have any clue as to why this might be fixed?
The only way to fix it is if you have the domain to use your HOSTS file. The loop back issue is built into the router firmware, you can’t fix that.
I put the following in my hosts file:
66.177.xx.xxx 127.0.0.1
Without the x’s that is, but its not working, I also did it with my domain insead of ip.
The ‘hosts’ file is used as priority when resolving domain names. You can’t put IP’s in there. You have to put something like:
127.0.0.1 localhost http://www.mydomain.com mydomain.com http://ftp.mydomain.com[/CODE%5D%5BCODE%5D127.0.0.1 localhost http://www.mydomain.com mydomain.com http://ftp.mydomain.com[/CODE%5D
Thanks! It works, now. It would have been a pretty hard to manage the site when it opens without being able to view it from the server while I’m working on it!
