MemberPlease help me! I can’t connect to any messenger. I have AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN and none of them. I even got Trillian, and it disconnects my aim, yahoo, and MSN and can not connect properly. I have no Firewall either. And if you guys are super experts I hope you can relate to what my friend told me. Cuz I have no idea what he said, he told me to use command prompt and type in: ipconfig /renew or ipconfig /release. I did and well I was quite confused… but I noticed something curious… when I typed in both those “ipconfig’s” an error came up in the command prompt, saying “No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected.” Media Disconnected, is that my problem, if so do you know how I can fix it?!?!
Thank you so much, even if anything I do doesn’t work I reeeeeeally appreciate the fact that finally someone actually replied to my messege…:)

KeymasterA few more details might help us give you the answer you need…
First, are you able to connect to the Internet? I assume you probably can, since you posted here, but it’s possible that you posted from a friend’s computer, so the question remains valid.
What kind of Internet connection do you have: dial-up or broadband? Do you have a local area network (LAN)?
Were you able to connect to any of these instant messengers in the past? If so, when did it stop working? Have you made any changes to your computer recently?
Most IM connection problems can be traced to a network configuration issue. That’s why your friend was suggesting the IPCONFIG command. If you have a LAN with a router, or are using a broadband connection with a cable or DSL modem, these can sometimes complicate things. The other common culprit is firewall software such as Black Ice. These can be configured to permit IM traffic, but often block traffic unless you specifically configure it to allow it.
The good news is that these problems are all easily solved.

MemberMy internet works fine, I have earthlink dial-up. As soon as I got my internet (after having it cut for 3 months) it stopped working, the aim, yahoo, and MSN worked fine before but now they don’t. I got all the new versions but they still don’t work. I don’t have a firewall and when I do the ipconfig, i’m not sure what else to do from there, can you help me please?!
