Memberok well im having problems direct connecting and sending files. i tried dissabling the windows firewall and it didnt make a diffrence. i have a netgear WGT624 wireless router. Also when other people direct connect with me it works. IDK what the problem is. could it be the ports?
Before when had my wired belkin router it worked fine.

Keymastertry opening/forwarding (i’m not sure ’cause i don’t have a router, just a software firewall) port 4443 TCP (this is the port that AIM should use for direct connection) from your router’s prefrences. you can also ask your friends for their ips (for that session) and then allow the ips through.
you can get to your routers prefrences by typing in “ipconfig /all” (in command prompt start>>run>>cmd) under “Default Gateway”. open your browser (internet explorer, etc) and type http://(theipoftherouter). it will take you to a configuration page.
from this page you should be able to edit your settings. read the Reference Manual for the 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router WGT624 for more information.

Memberwhats the starting and ending? is it both 4443? and is it tcp or udp or both?

Keymaster4443 TCP, sorry i forgot to mention that. starting port is only different then the ending port when you are opening a range of ports (like for bittorrent). keep both of them the same for this purpose.

Keymasterdo you still have your windows firewall disabled? if it is enabled you may have to open the same port in it. open your network connections>>right click on your wireless card and go to properties>>click on the advanced tab>>click on the settings button>>exceptions tab>>add port>>name:AIMDC>>port:4443.

“SCREENNAME has not responded; no connection was made. Make sure that your Buddy is using the latest version of AIM. Changing your settings in the Firewall preference may help. Also both you and your Buddy may need to adjust the settings of the firewall software on your individual networks.”
thats the message i keep getting when i try to direct connect with someone…but it works when the other person connects with me…

Keymastertry adding the persons ip address (ask them for it and paste it into notepad) to the firewall settings. this way they can have access to your network, but while this is happening mark the port down. it should still be 4443. if it doesn’t work, at least we will know it is not a port problem. to find out what port AIM is trying to open or is using open command prompt (start>>run>>cmd). when at the prompt type: “netstat -ano”. look for your friends ip. it should say something around the lines of

Memberwhen i search the list with my ip i there isnt my ip with the 4443 at the end listed

Keymasteralas, after all this, it seems that AIM file transfer through a router is not possible (unless one of the parties isn’t under a router). some say you can filter your packets and replace lan ip addresses, etc. read all about it: Technical Details about AIM file transfer. i have not figured out how to set this “filter” up (maybe Embed IP address in a packet is a good read?, ethereal user’s guide). the folks over at http://broadbandreports.com seem to love talking about routers and all that interesting stuff: All Forums.. Fredt87 has some ideas; may work, may not. linksys router and AIM direct connect
what’s weird is that when NdNElectronicsGeek and i tried to direct connect (initiated by him) his computer was trying to connect to mine. for some reason it wasn’t on port 4443; it was on port 5190. i don’t think older versions of AIM support direct connection with newer versions (maybe his/my settings were messed up?). another theory (probably the most true) could be that everything that i thought was true isn’t and this thread is just a huge waste of space. hopefully someone with more knowledge on this subject will come through.
