MemberThis morning I can’t log on to Yahoo from either of my two computers. I have not downloaded any Windows updates today, and I have tried restarted both computers with no effect at all. Any ideas? Is Yahoo just screwed up today?
As a side note, yesterday 9/10 I installed the update 824146 mentioned in the other thread and Yahoo was working fine for me yesterday.

I installed that too yesterday and now i can still log on to Yahoo messenger but i lost the voice on my messenger screen! yahoo just wrote me back and said to uninstall from the add/remove program and make sure you exit messenger all together, then reinstall it, so maybe this will help you too? If this doesnt work for me i will uninstall the Patch 824146 and see if i get it back, maybe you might want to try this too?September 14, 2003 at 1:20 pm #90620Oreo
MemberI can’t log into Yahoo! this morning with any ID. I installed updates and such DAYS ago without any problems. Here’s a conundrum for ya….Does Yahoo! have the problem and they aren’t sure what it is and they don’t want to admit to that?

MemberThis seems to have been going on for several days – I also downloaded the Windows update and originally blamed that for not being able to login to Yahoo Messenger. After talking with Microsoft, I was inclined to think it is a Yahoo problem. Who knows, but you are not alone. (See my thread below) Maybe someone will come up with a definite answer soon?

MemberOkay here is a checklist of things to do when having trouble logging in to Yahoo Messenger.
- Try logging on through the web/internet browser via http://login.yahoo.com
- If the above method fails: Try logging on through the web with a different Yahoo ID(If you have been in a Yahoo chat room recently, sign on with an ID that you have not used for some time, or create a new ID and sign on with it. Some users will attack people in chat rooms with account lockers or name cracking programs, which will lock a particular ID temporarily. If you can login with a new ID but not the original, chances are that ID is locked. Skip directly to #5)
- If both of the above methods fail, chances are Yahoo is the problem and the best thing you can do is wait a while and try again.
- If you can login through the web but are unable to login through Messenger; your Messenger may be corrupt. The best thing you can do in this case is (1)Completely exit Yahoo Messenger. (2)Perform an Uninstall of Messenger, via Control Panel. (3)Download the latest version of Messenger and Re-Install
- If after Re-Installing Messenger you still cannot login through Messenger, or If you cannot login through the web or Messenger; Your account may be Temporarily Locked. This might occur if: (1)You have recently been in a chat room and were the subject of a boot/er. (2)You removed buddies from your contact list in Messenger. There isn’t much that can be done other than resetting your password and wait for your account to be unlocked, which can take anywhere from 24hrs to 7days*. You also might want to update to the newest version of messenger and possible use an anti-boot program, to reduce this from reoccuring.
*I once had my account locked for 7 days [:O]. This happened when I removed one too many contacts in messenger. I got smart and use the web to remove contacts from my buddy list 😉
