My friend says installed LOTR 3 on his computer today, and now when he tries to play it, he gets an error message.
Quote:quote:it says to play it you have to have a 32 MB Direct3D capable video card using the NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS or greater or ATIRADEON 7500 or greater chipset with DirectX8.1 compatatible driverQuote:quote:here I will tell you exactly what it says one minuteit says: could not find compatable Direct 3D devices with required capabilities
Make sure you have current driver for your video card
He says he has directX. Does he need a driver called direct3D?
I’m not gonna say anything else, I don’t want to say something, not know what I’m talking about, and sound stupid. :p
August 19, 2004 at 5:50 am #39601TigerbladeParticipantwell… sometimes the answer is actually pretty simple. yes he needs a different driver if he wants to play the game. it’d help to have details on what his video card is and what it can do… otherwise he’ll have to “have a 32 MB Direct3D capable video card using the NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS or greater or ATIRADEON 7500 or greater chipset with DirectX8.1 compatatible driver”
gotta love having to buy newer, more expensive toys, dontcha?
August 19, 2004 at 6:17 am #39603AwesomeSauceParticipantAnother problem is, he doesn’t know what kind of video card he’s got, and I’m not sure how to find out. Any ideas?
August 19, 2004 at 6:56 am #39599DJHyperbyteMemberActually, Direct3D is a component of DirectX, like DirectInput and DirectDraw. What he needs to do is find out what videocard he has, see if it is good enough for the game and, if it is good enough, download the latest video drivers from the vendor site.

August 20, 2004 at 1:22 am #39600DavidParticipantTo find out what card you have:
(Control Panel > Display)
