Hi,
I’ve had this problem since last night. When I double click on the icon, the little hour glass appears but nothing happens.
I check in my task manager, and msnmessenger.exe is listed, but it doesn’t popup on my screen or start.
What do I do?

the file name of Messenger is actually msnmsgr.exe
I think you may be clicking on the wrong icon?
Try navigating to
C:Program FilesWindows LiveMessenger
or
C:Program FilesMSN Messengerthen clicking on
msnmsgr.exe
First, welcome to BBB! I think there is a real problem, based on the file name you have provided.
First, the process I have listed is msnmsgr.exe NOT msnmessenger.exe. A quick Google shows the process you specifically listed is UNDESIREABLE and installed via a worm. Here is a link to Trend Micro where you can read about it, and find the manual removal instructions.
Before manually removing it, I’d do a complete virus scan with up to date definitions and a complete spyware scan (preferably with Ad-Aware and up to date definitions) to see if you can resolve the problem in this manner. Be sure your browser is closed when you run the scans. If this doesn’t help, you may have to resort to the manual removal options.
I can’t stress enough that when programs start to “misbehave” out of the blue, a complete virus scan and in depth spyware scan are definitely in order. Not only should you have a good firewall always on, but virus protection should be up to date and always running, and spyware scans should be run at a minimum once a week if you spend much time on the internet. Even with such precautions, you can never be 100% free of the possibility of infection, but up to date definitions, and routine preventative maintenance are the best ways to combat it!!
