KeymasterCould you provide a bit more details? Do you get any specific error messages and are both you and your friend using the same Yahoo Messenger version?

MemberYes,… both are using the same version,… the new one. but,… when i try to hear them,. its a really high pitch voice, and fast,… and they hear me the same,… if they even hear me. So,… i have to go to confrence, and it works. but i really wish i could fix it.
Thanks for your reply,… i thought i had been forgottenSeptember 28, 2005 at 6:54 pm #130842Eagle_Kiwi
MemberHi again, CC.
I’d suggest, if you’ve tried/experienced this with only one person, try it with one or two others as well (and hopefully get your friend to do the same at their end).
That will at least show WHO has the problem – which then makes it a lot easier to grapple with. Also, are both of you using headsets when you use the “Call” ? I think it’s designed for headset use, so if one/both is using speakers then there can be problems with feedback (though that doesn’t sound like what you say you’re experiencing?).
Fear not – a topic like this won’t be “forgotten” ! 😉

MemberHi kiwi!
No,… it happens with everyone. And, yes,. i am using speakers,. so maybe thats it?September 28, 2005 at 10:15 pm #130843Eagle_Kiwi
Memberok, well, if YOU are using speakers, then that shouldn’t affect things at YOUR end much, but the OTHER person will hear herself echoing back when she talks.
And of course if SHE also is on speakers, then YOU will hear YOURself echoing back while you talk. And especially if someone’s speakers are fairly loud, this can be incredible distracting, to hear your voice being echoed back to you with a 1-second (aprox) delay.
If you do not have headsets, both try turning your speakers as LOW as you can manage, AND try to move your mic as far away from your speakers as possible. Sometimes a combination of these two measures – at BOTH ends – can almost eliminate the problem.
Good luck. 🙂 (but anyway, it’s nice to know there’s always the good ol’ “Voice Chat” mode which should work just fine if need be.)

Memberyes,… good ole voice chat !!! lol
but its not that i can hear too much,. the voice is distorted,. like somekind of alien is talking, lol,. plus the voice mail wont work!!! boo-hooOctober 5, 2005 at 5:49 pm #130844Eagle_Kiwi
Member“alien talk” …. in Voice Chat, if your bandwidth can’t keep up, YM disconnects you completely from sound, both in and out (then hopefully reconnects you after a few moments).
But in Call it appears to keep you connected, but “fix” the problem by “speeding up” what you hear – in other words you hear the other person’s voice faster and faster, and higher and higher pitched, until at times it can be unintelligible – even worse than Donald Duck!
Hopefully this speedup may occur for just a few seconds then revert to normal – but perhaps in your case it’s more constant ?Do you have broadband, or dialup ? NOT that dialup should be much problem, but I guess this effect is more likely on slower speeds. (I’m usually on dialup speed, and have no big problem on Call).
And next question – “voice mail won’t work” – can u explain a bit further ? Can you “see” an inward VM, and/or hear ANYTHING of it ?
Again r u sure it’s YOUR problem, not the other person’s ?
And what happens if/when you SEND a VM ?October 5, 2005 at 6:39 pm #130850cupcake
Memberyes,. its MY problem,. because it happens with everyone. But i am on DSL,…not dial -up. ALso,. on voice mail,. i see i have a msg,. but its so fast i cant understand it,……or hear nothing at all. ughhhhh
lolOctober 5, 2005 at 10:13 pm #130845Eagle_Kiwi
MemberAw geeeeee
Well, I reckon I’m plumb outa ideas, Cupcake. 🙁At least, as you say, you can comfortably use the Voice Chat… but shame to miss out on the Call side, especially those lovely VMs.
I hope someone else might be able to suggest something useful for you.

MemberI have the same problem. When I try to call someone or when they call me, we both sound like aliens. I used the Yahoo 7.0 Beta and voice worked great! As soon as we upgraded, the Yahoo! Call (Voice) feature no longer works.
Yahoo says it could be bandwidth, time of day, or region. Well, sounds bogus to me. Previously, on the Beta version, it worked any time of day, to any region, and the bandwidth was, and still is, DSL.
Immediately after the upgrade from Beta to the “official” 7.0 version, the feature stopped working.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. Don’t know what else to do. Any ideas?

MemberWell, THAT excuse sounds pretty bogus to me too, Sparkle! 😉
But I admit I can’t think of a better one offhand.
Anyway, I seem to have no trouble (much, anyway!) with the various voice forms in YM…. you’re welcome to get in touch directly, and see how we both sound, if you like. 🙂
