MemberI want to find out if others are having the same problems with the chat rooms. For the past couple of months, the room’s chat screen will freeze, the voice will go out, displayed cams will freeze – mine or others, a lost voice message window will be displayed, then after a few seconds, voice and cams will come back and the chat screen will scroll up indicating that others have joined or left the room and new postings are listed. It appears that it may be only me that hadsthe freeze problem and that others in the room are having no problems. When iI ask people in the room about it, I get various replies that are not really helpful. I am using version 7.0.2.120. Anyone else having this problem? If not, do you have any suggestions for a fix? I tried reloading messenger, but that did not help.

MemberInternet 101 – rest assure many others are having the same problems as you are. If your only experiencing this problem in chat rooms and nowhere else then the problem most likely isnt related to you by yourself. I personally do not use chat rooms anymore – I found them to be bitter and cold places where people can ceter you out and make you feel bad. But I do understand many enjoy them so many infact that you have to keep in mind that everytime someone enters into chat it takes that much more power to keep things running smooth. I would guess millions of folks visit at any given time which may or may not create glitches in the program.
good luck and happy chatting.May 15, 2006 at 12:08 pm #144432Fancy

I’m not sure exactly what caused it, but I was told its can be caused by others flooding the chat channel with messages or malicious code to boot users out of the room. You may also find that you get booted out from time to time.
This might help : Try YahELite…its free or Y-tunnel Pro at $17 dollars.May 16, 2006 at 2:27 am #144431Dermot
ParticipantThe current problems lately have been Yahoo!.
Y! Tunnel is not compatible with any new versions of Yahoo! Messenger.
And to be honest at 17$ i would want it to be be updated more then 2 times every 2 years.
YahELite is indeed free and a great subtitute fo chat.
However all these programs piggy back yahoo! as a network and when they have issues every client or program using Yahoo! will have issues.
If your pc was caught in a Voice lag mliciously at the time it would cause certain of your symtoms but there are “free” programs avilable to “filter” out malicious voice packets from your pc.
If you continue to have this problem i suggest a new complete full uninstall of Yahoo! messenger and get the latest 7.5 version and read this thread below.

MemberI agree with Dermot with the point that is Yahoo’s issue.
With everything that Yahoo is doing lately, and trying to migrate their system, whenever you are in a chat room, or getting PMs or Offlines, there is a pack loss. Which is the information you type, going to the server then where you are sending it. During that trip some of the packets (text) is getting lost. So it may not make it there at all, or not for a long time.
Also regarding chat rooms. Yahoo is trying to monitor the use of bots and booters, so if you type very fast, line after line, it could think you’re spamming the room and you will be on a 5 -10 minute chat ban. Meaning if you type, it won’t be seen.

MemberI resolved all of the problems I listed by uninstalling Messinger, deleting left over files, cleaning the register then reinstalling Messinger. Obviously, at least one file was corrupted. Thanks for your advice since it lead me to believe the problems I described was mine alone. Yahoo Messigner does have its problems, but this was not one of them.

MemberUpdate: My problems have returned, but I now know the cause – I just don’t know the solution. My LAN is freezing. The only equipment on the LAN is the pc and the router. At one point, the LAN stopped communicating for 30 sec every minute. I checked the Dlink site and they listed some switch settings in the router for Messinger to communicate better. Things are better now, but not completly fixed. I find it interesting that in previous versions of Messinger, it was not necessary to make special settings in the router. That no longer appears to be the case. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

ParticipantI do experience it. I am on dial up, but Yahoo is the most friggen unstable POS application I have ever run on my computer.
Besides this problem, I apparently did not have the most up-to-date version of Flash player on my computer, so when ever “Yahoo Today” or whatever would pop up, it would kill the app. I DID have flash updated, but it still did it. Total crap, but I managed to turn it off.

MemberUpdate: The problem appears to be the router. A significant improvement was made by turing off PnP in the router, but the problem still exists. The good news is that I can resolve the problem by resetting the router, but I have to do that each time after I power on the pc. Strange. I can’t imagine what has changed with Yahoo messenger to cause this problem.
