I have a client looking to incorporate chatrooms into his site. I am looking for recommendations for a php-based chat software that is capable of incorporating membership and members-only chatrooms as well as regular features such as private chat room creation and perhaps pms as well. This software can be open source or commercial. Thanks in advance!
I suggest looking at FlashChat. It requires PHP and MySQL but does not require IRC. It integrates with a large number of systems for registration, including vBulletin, IPB, Mambo, PHPNuke, etc.
I’m pretty sure you can do the members-only thing, although to what extent might be determined by the level of integration available for your database.
