My mom mentioned to me this weekend that she’d like me to find some new music for her. She’s hoping I can find some Christian music that she might like, but I really don’t know enough about that particular genre to even start looking.
The groups she’s already mentioned she likes are Mercy Me, Chris Tomlin, and Third Day. (I’ve linked to the CDs she already has… I don’t think she’s heard anything from the other CDs, but I can assume she likes their styles.) I’m hoping some of you might be able to come up with suggestions based on those. I’m looking through Amazon to see what I can find, but I wanted to see what I could glean from the good people here at BBB.
Help?

I also like Newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Jars of Clay, Casting Crowns, Relient K, lots of others 😮 . The WOW collections are good, too. You might want to check the playlists of KLOVE or Air One. Both have “clips” to hear so you can sort of see if it’s something your mom would like.
Hope that helps.

I’ve given them a listen (the iTunes music store is great for sampling music, by the way) and even I’m digging them a bit. I think she might also like Shawn McDonald, from what I’ve heard of it. I’m going for a sort of alt-rock sound for her. She has plenty of down-tempo worshipy music, so I want to get her listening to something a bit more upbeat. (That way, if I’m ever at home and she’s listening to it, I won’t mind.)
Thus far on my playlist for her, in no particular order:
Casting Crowns – “What If His People Prayed”
Flyleaf – “All Around Me”
Shawn McDonald – “The Rider on the White Horse”
Casting Crowns – “Praise You with the Dance”
Day of Fire – “Rain Song”
Casting Crowns – “American Dream”
Big Daddy Weave – “Let It Rise”
Downhere – “A Better Way”
Jars of Clay – “Dead Man”December 14, 2006 at 12:53 am #154273PolarBearNPRParticipantJust heard Kutless (reminds me of Staind) – “Shut Me Out” and Starfield (reminds me of someone . . .Hoobastank, The Fray, Coldplay?) – “Everything is Beautiful.” They’re good!
Switchfoot’s “Gone” has some good fuzzy guitar.
Need to Breathe – “You are Here” – Hoobastankish
Jeremy Camp – “Take My Life”
Red – “Breathe into Me”
a little “lighter” – Sanctus Real – “The Face Of Love”

POD’s newest album is pretty rockin too..
I just don’t understand how anyone likes Relient K. They are SO bad 🙁

December 15, 2006 at 1:06 am #154275Soccer4dummysMemberI LOVE Casting Crowns! They have a good group, and (if you haven’t already) you may want to look into their newer album: Lifesong. I noticed that all of the songs mentioned were from their first one. Good luck!
December 15, 2006 at 9:34 pm #154271TigerbladeParticipantHmm, Relient K is a bit too poppy for her (I have some Relient K, and I’m still iffy on them… no way would she like it), and POD is way too hard for her. I’m going more for an alternative sound, hence the Casting Crowns, Flyleaf, and Day of Fire. More bands like that would be great, if you know of any. I’m working my way through the Amazon suggestion lists and such, but nothing beats personal recommendations.
