MemberThat’s right. As I posted on my blog, I will donate 1 cent for every unique click (that means only once every 24 hours) on this page. I would also appreciate pledges on the unique clicks from willing people, but remember, all you have to do is click for me to donate. See the post for details, or the donations page.

MemberHow do we know we can trust you?
September 17, 2005 at 3:37 am #130277Tigerblade
Participantwhat’s there to trust? he’s not asking for money… he’s the one donating. all you have to do is visit the link which will count the unique visit and up the counter. if you want to pledge more money, but dont trust him for whatever reason, then you can simply donate to a charity yourself through whatever means you prefer. Example: the link in my signature for Red Cross Donations

MemberTrust as in, if i go there he is under no obligation to donate.

ParticipantBut the point being, Qwerty, that you’re not putting anything into it…so really, if you click and he doesn’t…does it really matter? Are you any worse off than if you didn’t click? No. 0 risk on your behalf. Though, you lack of trust in other people and your fellow man is both disenheartening and chilling to the bone.
And he is under obligation. Obligation of good faith, obligation to the people and obligation of karma (if you want to go that far) And astrologers are saying that next year will be a masive karmic come back…so in the end, we all get our own.
Do whatever you want, you’re no worse off if you do or don’t, guy.

MemberOK then. Regardless of alllllllllll that. Why does he need our clicks to decide how much to donate? It’s just so dodgy…

That’s not true at all. Such “clicking” site often contain viruses, trojans and other malicious java applets.Though, you lack of trust in other people and your fellow man is both disenheartening and chilling to the bone.
Your abundance of trust is disheartening and chilling. Life just isn’t pretty; without a guard (especially against complete strangers), you’re going to end up pretty cheated at some point.
In the end: money is never free, so we’re very much entitled to our suspiciouns. If Captainfullet wants to donate money, then he can do with without clicking any links.

MemberI must admit when I saw this thread I was rather sceptical as to why Captainfullet would want anyone to click on his link in order to decide how much he wants to donate.
Tigerblade has a link to donate to his chosen charity. I think that personally should suffice. I don’t know personally if you can get viruses etc from links, I am sure it’s probably very true. And caution is always the best policy with these things.
Captainfullet might have only posted 8 times so far but prior to this thread his previous posts have not been just promote his website, all his other posts have been constructive to this site. If his posts had not been I would have been very unhappy to look at his link.
However, I do think that if he wants to donate then he should, just do it and donate.
Captain … Do you just want hits on your site, are you asking people to think you’re a nice person by showing that your giving to this cause?? I don’t know I hope you can enlighten me as to why we need to click to your link. I hope you do respond to these questions as I would be interested to know why.
As Anna correctly stated people with computer knowledge would firstly be worried as to your reasons are for donating in this manner.

KeymasterI like to think the best of people, and reading Captainfullet’s blog, it seems like he’s just trying a creative way to 1) get traffic to his site by 2) promising to reward visitors by donating to Hurrican Katrina relief.
But I also agree that it’s wise to be skeptical of “click my link” requests. Is it sad to be skeptical? Yes. But then, that’s the world we live in. So as always, “To the clicker, beware!”

MemberJeff wrote:So as always, “To the clicker, beware!”Would that then be “Caveat clickor?” Or however that might be spelled. I think it is indeed an interesting idea, and think of it this way, companies often pledge to “match” donations, when they too could very well just donate the money outright. Click or do not click….you could always visit the site….see what it is all about…and then go back and click the link. Basically, it is an old idea, used in an innovative way, pretty much like Jeff mentioned…that’s my take on it anyway. 🙂

MemberI know someone with a 700k botnet, how much bandwidth can your server sustain?
September 19, 2005 at 9:20 am #130279RabidKitten
ParticipantAs far as being aware and bewaring strangers…I was of course assuming that the people doing it weren’t complete idiots and actually took some caution.
The skeptisism in the world has really run rampant the past few years, and most of the time, it’s really for no good reason. As for “life just not pretty” and all of that, honey, you’re preachin’ to the choir, so please don’t try and give me any life lessons. But once things do hit that bottom, you realize that something as trivial as “Hey, doi, click my link yay!” really doesn’t matter that much. And I really haven’t seen any ‘abundance’ of trust, and cetainly no overabundance. I really don’t see the point in marking someone off the instant you see them, so, yes, I appologize then for trying to give people a chance and prove themselves before jumping to conclusions *shrug*. Secondly…honestly, if it was harmful, do you suppose that the crack team here would let it stand?
And I never said “Hey, throw caution to the wind and just do it, stupid” or anything along those lines, I simply said that Qwerty’s complete lack of confidence and skeptisism of…well…everything that I’ve seen of late is getting to be tiresome and annoying. His posts are neither constructive nor good for moral, so lighten up, for crying out loud. It’s. Not. That. Big. Of. A. Deal. Pal.
PS. I clicked. I’ll let you know tomorrow if my computer blew up, heheh. *wink, le fin*

KeymasterI say if you feel like clicking go ahead, and if you don’t then don’t. Everyone should already be aware of what kind of results or not that could welll umm result in.
*Puts an “At OWN risk” sign up. I’m done.

MemberI don’t think thats very fair at all Rabid.
I can be skeptical if i so choose and after you kicked me for it, so to speak, about 5 people or so gave you perfectly good reasons for skeptisism of others on the internet.
Instead of apoligising or at least dropping it, you had to do it again and really, its not very cool at all.
I can be skeptical if I like and the internet is somewhere you have to be careful. If you still think your right though, and im out of line. I don’t want to know. You told me once, I dont need it again.

MemberHmmn, its getting kinda “hot” here peepz! 😀
This is the result of “freedom of expression”!Oh well, since we had enough of their stands and opinions about “clicking the links”, I suggest that we go back to business. aight?
By the way i clicked the link, and my PC is working fine until now(finger crossed, LOL).
Lets just help those people in need in any way we can, and an oppurtunity is now presented by captainfullet in his own creative way.
